Windows Media Player 11 Heeeeelp!

Posted by: GraemeH on 30 August 2010

Im using Win XP with a Geforce Nvidia 9600 graphics card and plenty memory but mpeg. videos on my machine buffer and stop/start.

I reloaded MP 11 and played an mpeg which then started beautifully smooth and continuous for about a minute and then slowed to a stuttering halt.

I've adjusted acceleration, buffer and just about everything else to no avail.

Flash is also stop/start on games but shockwave plays perfectly.

Any knowledgable folks able to help?

Many thanks.

I have to confess I'm firmly on the geek side and work in a department full of geeks.

I see I have an option to 'End Process'.....I don't really know what I'm doing to be honest....!

40 processes and 400MB is about normal. I'd be really surprised if it is directly a system resources issue. All I can suggest is trying uninstalling and reinstalling your media player (if possible). Otherwise seek expert advice. Otherwise try another media player. But the flash thing is also odd.

Or get a Mac. That's the easiest solution I've found to the issue of Windows frustratingly, inevitably and eventually grinding to a halt in every single case that I've used it. Owning a Mac fixes this shit 100%.
