Obbviously not aimed at this household I have 1 of the top 50 and my son (25 yrs) has a further 3.
So who is buying those under 25s and over 60s? Or is it just a vote?

Is anyone actually buying them or is it a scam to promote sales? I suspect the latter.

It's not based on sales - it's votes from the staff of Rough Trade. And yes it is completely subjective.
I was surprised at some omissions, such as Laura Marling; maybe being nominated for a Mercury Award disqualifies you from being in the list! :-) But there are undoubtably some very fine albums in there. Being a member of The Album Club I've got quite a few of them and I haven't been disappointed.

I have 11 of the 50 albums. Not sure that any of those 11 make my personal top 10 this year though.

Get busy with the unpacking, my credit card is twitching. It's not like I can do anything else at the moment.
I have 3 / 50

David Holmes - Holy Pictures could make my top 10 thinking about it.

Obviously people working in record shops are way cooler than me, so I only have 3 from the list (Benga, Portishead, 2562)
That said I rarely keep up to date, preferring to pick them up a couple of years later when they are going for £5 at Fopp

I have 1. Shearwater - Rook.
If you find the right list, these lists can be a good way of getting some new music. I guess this particular list isn't for me, though.

1 more than me.
Still don't suppose they stock Karine Polwart records.
Anyway album of the year was obvious to me, but not to them

Well, if there were a new release from him then I think it would well be classified divine

My one bit of non-greying hair has my purchases for the year represented at no. 39.
Must listen to that Breeders album again but my initial listens put it down as their weakest album to date.
My favoutite album of the year is however kind of related;
Kim Deals ex partner in crime alas now seems too uncool for the in crowd.

Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and Headless Heroes (just arrived this morning) and plenty of others on the list that I had coveted but not bought such as MGMT, Friendly Fires and Vampire Weekend. Guess i'm not the hip young gunslinger I used to be

I have 11 of the fifty and 5 of the top ten and Album of the Year for me is MGMT - Oracular Spectacular though their #1 Bon Iver is growing on me. Everyone I play Fleet Foxes to loves it so check those two out and you might discover that other albums in the list follow. Also check out The Acorn - Glory Hope Mountain for a Wilco meets Talking Heads symbiosis.
Rough Trade is a huge supporter of small independent labels that try to unearth new talent and interesting new styles of music so those with an open mind and would like to hear something outside of their comfort zone should sign up here....

Only 1 for me - and they're not exactly spring chickens either - more than 25 years since their first one together (Byrne & Eno if you haven't worked it out).
