Cold Mountain

An excellent soundtrack (features Alison Krauss, Jack White and various others) and a half-decent film.

Jude Law is not totally convincing (could they really not find an American actor for the part?) but it is a beautifully shot movie with some excellent moments. Interesting to compare with 'O Brother Where Art Though' as Law faces some of the same Homerian challenges on his trek back to the woman he loves. As usual a sparkling cameo from Phillip Seymour Hoffman (perfect as a libidinous preacher) and another from Natalie Portman who radiates more warmth and humanity in 10 minutes than the ice-woman Kidman ever musters.

See the film if you like, but the soundtrack is certainly worth the cash.
