Am into this style of music, from what I've read about the BoC, but what would any owners recommend as a first album....??
Geogaddi, Music has the Right to Children, or The Campfire Headphase....
Just thought I'd ask.....
Cheers,
Ali

Yeah, wanted to add that I purchased - Sakura, by Susumu Yokota and really liked it too, along with BOC and Global Comm.
There are more of his albums out there too (Symbol, Grinning Cat, Distant Sounds of Summer, to name a few) does anybody own any and would care to recommend....??
Cheers,
Ali

I remember buying this in ( '93?) and i loved every track the first time round.
In fact, if you peruse the listening too thread, you will see i was actually listening to it last night.
Where do they get the idea of making a track with a grandfather clock ticking as the beats?

You also need to track down the Chapterhouse -"Blood Music" cd, which was remixed by GC.
It is bloody awesome.
Mind you, i last saw it for sale at nearly 50 quid!
However, if you want me to sort one for you, i will be happy to oblige

Hello Jason,
can't seem to find Chapterhouse's Blood Music, after only a quick surf....
Very kind of you to offer a copy, believe it or not we do actually get mail out here (wink)....along with the day or so old newspaper! Flights are quite regular during the week - I hear them coming in when I'm in my bed trying to get into nightshift.....
Do you own any Susumu Yokota...???
Cheers,
Ali

Jason, Warp records direct - http://www.warprecords.com/
Not always the cheapest, but often before the general release date and with unexpected freebies (stickers, postcards, occasional cd samplers).
I got the GC 76.14 recently and Susumu Yokota/Rothko (possibly 'Distant Sounds of Summer' ?) too. The former is superb, a real grower (yeah the grandfather clock beats are inspired!). Not listened to the other enough to get a good impression.
Re Biosphere, I've got Microgravity, Substrata2, Cirque and Shenzhou. The first is more electronica, the others are ambient at it's best. Recommended. I really must get around to buying Patashnik some day...
...and if you like the ambient stuff I'd recommend Chris Watson (ex Cabaret Voltaire and now an acclaimed wildlife sound recordist) - in particular Weather Report:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/experimental/reviews/chriswatson_weather.shtml
edit: Just read the bbc reviews and Chris actually answers one of the questions too. Cool (pun not intended).
cheers

Hi Lee,
Give G.C. a little time, it will be one you come back to more often than you think!!!
However, at the moment ive moved on to this:
BOC - "In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country" EP
Here is a little useless info for you about the BOC:
The sentence "Come out and live with a religious community in a beautifull place out in the country" reminded me of something. Waco. On further investigation, the other track in the Mini-EP/Single "Amo Bishop Roden", was actually a religious nut who was also A Branch Davidan (the religious sect involved in the waco tragedy). Infact, the events of April 19, 1993 seem to be a long standing theme with BoC in that within the track "1969" (geogeddi) there is a line "Although not a follower of David Koresh, she's a devoted Branch Devidan" - reffering to Amo Bishop Roden. Speculative also, is that the grenades used to enter the Branch Devidan farm were made in 1969.
Peace

Ali,
Re Susumu Yokota; my favourite album, by far, is The Boy and the Tree. Other albums I have are Laputa (is okay) and Grinning Cat; don’t get on with that one at all.
Got my BOC copy of Trans Canada Highway today on lovely snow-white vinyl.
