Prompted by Tony L to post more on folk music, here is a list of some of my favourites. Where no album recommendations are given, you may assume all output is excellent. Where a recommendation is given, be advised to follow it. All this is IHMO, of course, no liability accepted if you think you have wasted your money by buying any.

Nigel, how well does Irish folk music translate to records? I've only heard it in pubs, innumerable fleadhs etc and both Planxty and De Dannan several times in my youth. From my hazy memory it seems too spontaneous to capture on record.

John.

Matt Molloy's pub is great for music, unfortunately very packed with tourists when I last went (then again I suppose I'm a tourist now too).

I've just realised what a stupid question this is, but what the hell I'll ask it anyway.

Nigel,

I am looking for acoustic guitarist/singer type music, along the lines of Isaac Guillory's "Slow Down" (Isaac Guillory's now sadly deceased).

Would you happen to have any recommendations ?

I have just borrowed some Martin Simpson (Grinning in you face) and Dick Gaughan (Handful of earth),which, whilst being in the "right direction",don't quite hit the spot.

Regards

Chris

John

Nothing comes close to being at, ideally playing in, a boozy folk session and that atmosphere, the craic, can never be captured on disc. The recommendations will give you the very best of Irish music - without even scratching the surface because I have left out loads of excellent musicians.

Chris

I am not familiar with Isaac Guillory but if you give me some idea of the style, I shall have a think about it.

cheers

Nigel

You want a description ???? Oh Heck !!!

Erm,kind of folk rock, some traditional, with some blues elements thrown in,mostly just one man and his guitar.

(I have e-mailed you...it's easier)

Regards
