If you are missing The Office...hail Property People

Posted by: Mekon on 07 January 2004

On BBC2 at the mo' is Property People, and it's a deliberately touching on similar themes, with Tim from The Office doing the narration. This week, the key character was Richard, an older salesman who is being eaten alive by nasty younger ones, and falling apart as it happens. He seems utterly unsuited to the job, and hadn't made a sale for weeks. Add to that the fact he is on commission only, and that the youngster on the desk next to him is selling left, right and centre, and it's not good. Fortunately, he pulls it together at the end, but still horribly painful to watch.

Anyone else catch it?

Schadenfreude says it all, compulsive viewing.

That 20 year old w*nker should have been taken out and shot. Richard had a wife and kids to support, 34 years old, etc. I would not have kept it together as well as he did.

I saw it. Fantastic, but we drew parallels with characters from The Office and decided towards the end that it must be a spoof. It is soooo obvious. Richard with the David Brent psychology assessment of the punter, and there was even a Fast Show moment with Swiss Tony with "I see a buyer as a.....etc". And the Polo scene playing Emenem loud, drumming on the wheel. It can't possibly be real.

Watched it too.

Sidesplittingly funny and I too was convinced it is a spoof.

It's quite possible that it is, but click here for the home website to see what it says about the documentary. Also note the reference to Julian Richer/Richer Sounds.

Whether it's a spoof or not, I shall make an effort to be home (sic) in time to see it next week.

Custard TV have it listed as a docusoap. I reckon it's for real, but then it took Mel B to come on during the Aspel's kids thing for me to be certain about that.

If it is a spoof, would they really have gone to the trouble to setup such an extensive web-site complete with hundreds of properties listed for sale all over N and E London - I think not!

Anyway, I thought the protaganists were remarkably similar in appearance and behavioral patterns to estate agents I've met, complete with sharp suits, gel and attitude Wink

Not a spoof!

We had Richard in our flat for a valuation last year- he is exactly as portrayed on the the documentary..(BTW we decided not to sell in the end but not beacuse of him..)

That probably makes it even funnier then....

Can you imagine his outburst when he put the phone down?

After all, this is a man for whom "failure" is not in his vocabulary....
