Canon's 50D is here.

So, if you've been waiting and putting off your purchase, here it is: http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/50d.htm
(Hyperlinking seems to be playing up)
I think I'll wait for the 60D to replace my 40D, unless something happens and I can warrant a 1D in the meantime...

Just read this on dpreview..
"On the surface it looks almost similar to its predecessor"
"Almost similar"?? What does that mean?
Is that like "Almost exactly"??
Perhaps they were in a rush to beat stevesdigicams onto the net.
Bless them.

Tony
Good timing as I was thinking about changing my 20D but I think I'll wait for the 5D replacement.
I like the guys style....cuts through the B/S.
Cheers

Yep, it's the only photographic website I go to. Read a bit about his background, he's an interesting guy with a solid foundation in imaging. Hey, I've even donated £££s to his website twice!
5D replacement? Mmmmm, in my dreams.

I used to really love going out with my Canon EOS 650 and taking photos, composing, catching the light, all that stuff, but in my older years I seem to have lost that interest. now i just look at the camera and think 'too heavy' and this is what the 50D makes me think. I also look at all the gadgets and think 'how on earth am I meant to know what to do with that lot???'
Perhaps it's just the ageing process....

Buy a 1000D, leave it set to P and use the exposure compensation dial. Tooooo easy.

Wait for the 5D replacement, it will be something of a cut price 1DS3 almost, not quite as many MPixels but close, and within 3 months the price will drop to its real street price. I will of course be keeping my 1DS3.
Ken Rockwell is in my opinion however a bit of a twat, he changes his opinion like the wind, 1 week Canon is the best thing since sliced bread and a week later Nikon is the only camera on earth, he's the doyen of the sweeping statement, ignore his rambling and go to others sites for more balanced views.

I think both Canon and Nikon cameras are pretty high quality now. I got the D40, lovely job. Love using it, but got it mainly because I was already using a Nikon SLR and had a couple of lenses.
It's never going to be the difference over talent and glass quality, is it?
