Rough Trade Shops Top 60 of 2009
Posted by: Steeve on 21 November 2009
For those who haven't seen it yet, my favourite record shop has announced the annual vote of its staff:
Rough Trade Top 60You might be interested to know if you buy any one of the Top 10 releases you get an exclusive bonus disc plus a £10 Rough Trade voucher.
I guess the only criticism I'd have is that it could be a little more diverse but remember it is just their personal subjective choices and there are undoubtably some very fine albums in there. Personally, I was a little disappointed not to see three of my favourites, Emmy The Great, Regina Spektor and The Unthanks in there somewhere but I'll get over it!
As a member of The Album Club, I have a few of them already and can certainly recommend The XX and Fever Ray in particular if you're looking for stocking fillers!

Another shout for The XX. Cracking album.

That's another 0 for me - haven't these guys ever heard of Karine Polwart - oh well.

O for me too, I didn't even know but 3 of the artists.

I have nine of these, including the Low Anthem, and Grizzly Bear. The former is great but a bit all over the place, the latter is something I admire but just never really get enthused about.

Isn't that one of the good things about it though?

Justice has now been done at last - Emmy The Great has been granted no. 20 in the new revised list.
Yes, I know nobody on here cares! :-)

7 on this one, but as far as I am concerned only one of the albums - Jonsi & Alex, would get near my top 30 of 2009.

Just reread my first post and need to make a correction - you only get the £10 voucher if you buy ALL of the Top 10 for £99.99. Otherwise that would just be silly.

8 for me though at one time I had 11, I am a member of the album club so I suppose that makes sense. Though for me it's a travesty that Merriweather Post Pavilion is not #1, I demand a recount.
BigH & ROTF,
I'll recommend a few if you want.

Interested, yes. Care, no.

However the postman should be bringing THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART very soon.
And if it's important. I have six others on the list. So far.

Think I'll stick with Christy Moore and Mary Chapin Carpenter, but thanks any way Dean.
BTW in the list starting at 11. is the album title or group name first?
Posted on: 13 December 2009 by Whizzkid
Its, Group Name - Album Title

14 for me. Almost all of them recommended by my younger sister.

I have 6 of these and another 6 on my list that I have been meaning to listen to on Spotify. I might give a few of the others a go now as well.

Ok if we're doing the numbers game, I've managed to acquire 19 somehow and all in the top 30. I also have 2 copies of no. 20.

There seem to be quite a few of these lists out from various sources and I notice they have one thing in common: they all omit the best album of the year. Namely Left Lane Cruiser with the album All You Can Eat.
It's hard to take these lists seriously when a magnificent album like that is left out. And Rought Trade is my favourite record shop too. What can it all mean?
Posted on: 14 December 2009 by Steeve
It means we all have different tastes. I don't really see any of these lists as a vindication of my own tastes although Rough Trade's is probably the one that comes closest. For what it's worth two of my favourites were not on the list either but that doesn't mean there aren't many fine albums there of which I wouldn't otherwise have been aware.
