Mamma Mia - brill music!

Well, wasn't sure whether this should go in the padded cell (along with me!), but i took the missus to see this at the cinema last night - brill.
Abba the album was the 1st album i purchased as a kid, and i got hammered for it at school, but a good pop song is a good pop song, isn't it?

Looks like you're on your own mate!
Seriously, I remember liking some Abba songs as a teenager, and having to disown them due to peer pressure to be cool - it was Abba or Punk/Post-Punk, and it was against the law to like both. Since then I've learned to trust my own taste in music, and not give a hoot whether it's considered cool, intellectually respectable, or whatever. And yes, I do own a couple of Abba CDs.
The flip side - I wonder how much of today's pop music that's routinely sneered at for being lightweight or tacky, will be regarded as classic pop in future. I started a thread in praise of Girls Aloud a while ago, but didn't get much support, even though it's obvious to me that many of their hits are several leagues above the vast majority of pop music in the care that's gone into their construction. As you say, a good pop song is a good pop song.
Cheers
Nigel

I saw it last week and loved it even though it's far better on stage. Unfortunately I had to go on my own because my sons weren't interested but it was their loss!

Not seen the musical, but the film was good entertainment. Shame about casting Pierce Brosnan in a role requiring singing.

...Oh fer gawd's sake! .....yes Abba were a great pop band but Mama Mia is a musical for pity's sake A MUSICAL! AAAAAAGGGHHHH the horror!
Everyone knows the musical is THE worst form of artistic expression in the history of the civilised world!
(except West Side Story which is almost listenable)
Real Men don't do musicals! ...in real life people don't just suddenly start wailing and prancing in the middle of the street whilst being ignored by passersby!..it just doesn't happen!
Mama-bleedin'-Mia? Mama bleedin' racket!

Sorry Alf, maybe somebody should've given Mozart this advice. After all, what's opera but a few fat folk shouting things at each other in a foreign language?

Seen the film Mamma Mia! last weekend, it was really brilliant, even better than the Live-Musical. Funny, emotionally involving, good actors, put on stage with love. Guess the crew had a really good time, and us too!

I'm feeling like I'm stalked by ABBA. I grow up in the town where Björn came from (Västervik), I have lived in the town where Benny came from (Stockholm) and I currently live where Agneta came from (Jönköping), working a couple of blocks from where she worked as a telephone operator.
Thankfully Annifrid came from Norway...

Andy, if this is the same film I heard the trailers of, with Streep and Brosnan actually singing, there is no way I could sit through it.
