SNAIC - 4 upgrade?
Posted by: Julian H on 15 September 2003
Hi all
Currently I'm using a grey coloured SNAIC - 4 between my Prefix's Supercap and my 52. Is this the current "colour" or should i be looking for a black one for a relatively low cost upgrade?
Or has anyone got any alternative options I should consider?
Both my SNAIC - 5's are black already so I guess they are a later type.
Thanks, Julian

Funny that, but I was thinking the same thing only this morning! I guess that replacing my grey with black - 4 of them, would be £250? I don't expect it would be a cost effective upgrade. I'm pretty sure I could use the money better elsewhere.

Julian,
this cable is not a SNAIC - it is an interconnect (4-pin at one end, 5-pin at the other).
It should be the same colour as a CD-to-preamp cable, i.e. grey. The latest ones are known as 'lavender', although they are only a subtly different shade of grey than the older i/c's.
cheers, Martin

Thanks for the correction Martin, you are right.
My "interconnect" is 5 pin at one end and 4 pin at the other. It is grey, certainly not lavender. Is the lavender interconnect a worthwhile upgrade?
Cheers, Julian

Julian,
Lavendar is more of a label than any sort of accurate description. You'd have to put the two side-by-side to see which was which.
I've never compared the two on a Prefix, but it's certainly worthwhile on a CD player - a cleaner and tighter sound.
cheers, Martin
