downgrading/upgrading...

my 52 is at naim for some tlc. unprompoted, my dealer, simon@infidelity offered me his own dem 52 to use till next week, when he will want it back. still unprompted, he has indicated that he will make available his own personal 82 for me to use till my 52 comes back!! beyond call of duty, or what?

an 82 is not a 52 (dong!!) but this will give me a chance to assess just how different this pre-amp is in an active system. it will be powered by a supercap.

so, i will go from 52/scap and hicap/snaxo to 82/supercap hicap/snaxo and then to 82/supercap supercap/snaxo and then back to my normal setup which is 52/supercap supercap/snaxo.

if there is anything interesting to report on these downgrades/upgrades, i will let you know.

I'm looking forward to your report, Ken. I'm still awaiting the opportunity to use my own 52. I've had the pre-amp for almost a month, but the cables didn't come in the original box (a small oversight by Naim). Due to various vacations of the distributor and dealer, as well as shipping issues, I probably won't get it going until the end of next week. Now that the CDS2 has settled in and I'm familar with its performance, I'm eager to see what the 52 will bring to the table.
