Transmission Lines

Posted by: Mark Packer on 14 March 2001

Is anyone on the forum running Tranmission Line loudspeakers with Naim kit. If so what are you running and why?

Specifically does anyone have firsthand experience of IPL loudspeakers, either owning, building or hearing?

You input is appreciated.

regards,

Mark

Yes, I am using a pair of IMF RSPM MkIV.

They are driven by 6xNAP-135, "Marchand Electronics" Electronic cross-over, NAC-32.5 and Hi-Cap.
Sound source is usually a Sony X777ES and Meridian 566 DAC.

This system exhibits a believable sound stage and bass extension that is synonomous with loud speakers with transmission line loading.

In summary a very musical system, you will note I have not claimed "a very accurate system". Firstly this is impossible and secondly accurate is a absolute term so you can't get "very accurate".

This system is in a large room (24'x15'12' height) and this is where the transmission line work best.

I have a pair of Isobarik PMS that sound not as convincing in this room.

Warning, this type of speaker is demanding of amplifier quality, a crappy amplifier will sound crappy, like all speakers sound best when active.

Judge these speakers on merit not on somebody's opinion, including mine.

Till next time.....

I use Rega Naos, which is a transmission line speaker with a passive radiator mounted at the top rear of the speaker. Bass extension beats that of the Credo, although not its agility. Why is it that no-one else mentions Rega's new flagship speaker, although all the other Rega speakers get mentioned? confused By the way, I tried them on the end of CDS2/NAC52/NAP250 and they were fantastic! big grin

Feel free to mention your MF, there is nothing wrong in that at all. We may question your taste but the main thing is that you share the love of music which fuses us Naim lovers together.
