Loseless rips with iTunes
Posted by: Gavin B on 20 September 2009
Okay folks, I've just purchased a new iPod classic to replace my previous non-Apple player. I've decided to re-rip my CDs in Apple loseless. So, what settings should I be making to get it right first time? One bug bear I had with my previous rips was the volume difference between certain CDs - is this correctable or should I stay clear?
iTunes may not be the best software for doing rips, but that's what I intend to use.
So - any advice for settings?
Thanks
Gavin

Hi Gavin, you might want to take note of my post just below - I use I-Tunes too, for conveneience of decent interface and the I-pod, but I'm ripping through DBPoweramp via Apple Lossless now

Gavin, once you have decided on Apple Lossless - ALAC - as your format of choice, there are not actually many settings to attend to within iTunes...
Got to iTunes Preferences, then under General hit the Import Settings tab. Select Apple Lossless in the top tab, setting below will default to Automatic and I would advise to select the Use Error Correction option...Hit done, and your away - these become your default settings every time you import a CD....
Hope this helps.

Gavin,
Steve is absolutely right. Also get an AppleTV if you can afford one to use as a local media server.

And get it hacked with Boxee.
It transforms it.

I prefer XBMC but yes it transforms a closed format proprietary box into a fully fledged media server able to play any audio and video codec.
A must for ATV I have not used it in stock configuration for 2 years
