After Vivaldi ?

I have a lady friend who thinks that Vivaldi's Four Seasons is the best thing she has ever heard. Can any of the classical buffs here suggest any other works that she might like, that I could bring to her attention ?

Next might be the JS Bach Violin Concertos, which have a similarities, but are pure music without the descriptive element of the Vivaldi works! Bach very much admired Vivaldi, and even transcribed some of his scores so he could perform the works!

Also you might wish to consider a disc of Baroque and Classical Trumpet Concertos, by such artists as Maurice Andre, Haakon Hardenberger, or Edvard Ole Antonsen, as these contain the most delightful style of music from Telemann to Haydn and Hummel, and will allow for other composers' works to be learned and possibly followed up.

You might wish to hunt out the old Thread "A Record Library," which contains among others my own collection. There have been a few additions and deletions since, but you may get a few hints on some other things as well such as other works by Bach and so forth.

Here is a good link to a Thread that pulls together links to a great many useful threads on moving forward:

One-stop shopping for Vivaldi, covers vocal through instrumental and I have yet to buy a duff disc in the series. Also, try anything where Il Giardino Armonico are playing - they did a very good Vivaldi disc with Viktoria Mullova

Well I folloed up with the Alison Balsom disc of Bach: Works for Trumpet. I thought it was excellent, enjoyed it very much. This was helped somewhat by the Day in the Life article about Ms Balsom in the Sunday Times, she can blow in my ear anytime. I await the response of my friend to the disc, but I'm sure she is going to like it. many thanks all.
