Next Uniti software update

Posted by: 0rangutan on 10 June 2010

Interesting comments on the Bookshelf Apps (Songbook) blog today re. the next Uniti software update.

Original post here.

"We’re also hard at work on better UPNP support. We’ve had mixed results getting manufacturer support for this. Some have been very helpful (Naim being one), and some just won’t even return our calls (I won’t mention names here). While we’re on the subject of Naim, we have heard that there will be a software update for the Uniti that will make SongBook work much better with it, so we’re holding off on getting a new release out until we’ve got more information on this update."

The only confirmation I have had from Naim is a fix for pause not working with many UPNP servers.

There has also been a suggestion that the Qute and a software updated Uniti will support gapless playback.

Looking forward to this, but expecting to wait some while longer yet.

I found the songbook developer one of the most helpful guys regarding software.

But why not wait for the Naim Uniti app? It will probably be half the price of Songbook, which I find much less intuitive than the HDX app

Apologies for the misunderstanding - I am eagerly awaiting the Uniti update, not Songbook.

John, have you heard more information about these issues since these were last raised in the forum several months ago?
I still regard these as the most pressing 'core' issues to sort out on the Uniti, but I too expect to wait some more time yet.
Fingers crossed.

Tom, I emailed Naim support to ask about the pausing problems and got a fairly quick reply back confirming that they were aware of it and planned to fix it in the next Uniti firmware release. I'm afraid I don't know any more than that.

Thanks John,
I guess 'planning to fix it' counts as a small progression.

Have dug out the email from back in March:

"It appears to be a known issue (when I spoke with the R&D guys it was known about this morning) and apparently there will be a fix for it in the *NEXT* firmware update."
