The room temperature affect

Posted by: naimless! on 21 December 2001

I've been running in my new kit for about 2 months now and thought it had really come together, then last week something happened where the sound was truly transformed yet again and sounded bloody fantastic!...I mean major major transformation....then last night i kicked back for a wee listening session and everything seemed to to be back to the way it was before...last weekend i had the put the coal fire on...am i mad or does this really have such a dramatic effect on the sound? the system is left switched on all the time...pedro

No silly jokes from me of course. I am convinced that as the power amp gets to egg frying temperature the LP12 above really starts to sing.

I would have to assume this comes down to being relaxed in front of the fire with a nice red, listening to music.

We have bloody storage heaters, the most perverse heating system on earth, you boil in bed from about 1 am to 6 am then in the evening the flat is stone bloody cold.

Utter crap.

Music still sounds good, I just compensate for the cold with extra wine.

I guess we all have those very ocassional times when the system is blindingly good, and we can't wait for the next time.

The next ocassion often fails to live up to expectations.

There are of course the explainable variables of mains quality, room temperature etc: etc: BUT; I'm firmly convinced that it's one's state of mind and alertness that has the biggest effect.

Gazing into a real fire with a wee tipple is bound to make you feel good.
