Just in case you've missed it the new album 'Icky Thump' is released Monday and getting excellent reviews. Cranking my system up to 11 in anticipation.

I should really buy all their albums - one of these days....... they are rather good.

Diccus,
if you want you can have mine....I've tried so hard to get into them but just can't. Got White Blood Cells on cd and Elephant on vinyl. The sound quality of the vinyl is very good though.

Saw them in Hyde Park last night, they were awesome, as ever. How can two people make so much noise? As always, an excellent presentation too.
The material they played from the new LP bodes very well for the record itself. Very Zeppelinesque. I've pre-ordered it on vinyl.
They are probably the best live band in the world at the oment, perhaps he best band full stop. They have everything: fantastic songs, great riffs, huge power, a superb understanding of dynamics, super musicianship, charisma in spades, a superlative grasp of the importance of detail, the best colour scheme ever (black, white and red, which they stick to rigorously), an unerring sense of cool... they're virtually perfect.

..Icky Thump is indeed a crackin' album ...quite possibly their best album yet ...their last album was by WS standards fairly low key - this one is to me more immediate and yes shades of early Zeppelin are still in there ......The Stripes' are important as one of the few bands who actually sell records to still make an unholy racket at times...the world needs more like em'!

I just wish I'd never seen that sketch by French & Saunders - they managed to get too close even though they were taking the proverbial.

I don't disagree with you Jet, but they just don't do it for me. I find the Yeah Yeah Yeahs much more entertaining.....they're last record Show Your Bones was brilliant.

Saw them last night at Harewood - omfg!!
Best band I've ever seen live. 3 tracks from new album - which i have yet to hear (on pre-order) - which were in keeping with their usual standards.
BTW re Led Zepp - the shared blues influences inevitably mean that there is a commonality.
P.S. Queens of the Stone Age on same billing - crap or what?

I couldn't get into the White Stripes previously so thought I'd risk this album.

I still haven't found the hidden track eulogising Black Pudding

quote:there's almost always something commendable about Icky Thump. Frequently, that something is Meg White, still playing drums with that dogged resolve that makes you think not of a percussionist but a first-time property developer setting about a supporting wall with a sledgehammer
A quote from the recent Guardian review that made me grin.

I agree with the majority of posts, the new White Stripes cd is excellent. I am unaware of any hidden track however; can anyone confirm there is one?
Posted on: 22 June 2007 by BigH47
Mike I think you missed the hidden smilie as well!

sorry for the confusion, Mike. Comment probably lost on anyone under 40 from outside the UK

I think the picture needs some explaining.

A bit slow on the draw today apparently! I have discovered several hidden tracks after the fact and Euro Trash Girl which is arguably the best song on Kersone Hat by Cracker was unknown to me for a year or so.
