Rubber feet stains
Posted by: Stephen Dupuis on 15 January 2003
Has anyone else experienced discolouration form the rubber feet on wood shelves. Removing my Naim from the stand for dusting I noticed that the rubber feet left a stain in the finish. I have tried isopropyl alcohol and some furniture polishes to remove them but without success. I have put used playing cards under the feet of my 102 and H-Cap for the short term but have not found a solution.

yes, a well known problem in the world of rubber coated guitar stands and vintage guitar varnishes. The only answer is to avoid contact between them. Perhaps some felt pads would look better than playing cards, and all this talk of the correct form of isolation is tosh anyway.

Is this the real reason that many stands use glass shelves?

Well - since the stand is on loan from the dealer for home trials I may be purchasing it now. If so I may countersink some sort of support and put a glass shelf.
