Hi there,

Naim said that if the PSU send back to service, it will be as good as new, is it true? Want to hear from someone who had done it before. Can even have the cosmetic change (i.e. facsia or case)

cheers

Hi Martin,

My '95 Hi-cap is due back home tomorrow from service at Naim HQ. I had the facia replaced as the original had gone a manky greeny-brown colour rather than the nice olive green the rest of my kit has. New facia was a (gulp) £48+Vat extra.. Eek I have no doubts that it will sound much better (and look better also). Smile I've no idea about facia/case costing to latest design though.

Cheers,

Steve

Just got a 1988 refurb HiCap back from Naim and took a look inside. Everything looked absolutely brand spanking new. The quality of the work done was excellent and it obviously HAD been worked on extensively.

Can't vouch for any improvement in sound quality because I bought it S/H and the refurb was part of the deal. However, considering we're talking Naim here, I'd take that as a given

Cheers

I've recapped my Hi-Cap and 250. Both recaps improved the sound by a considererable amount. I agree with Harry that the work is to Naims excellent high standards and would recommend a recap of poweramp and power supply without reservation.
I'm now considering recapping my 72 preamp as well. I don't think theres anything wrong with it, it's just that I have been so impressed with the recaps I've done already. Has anyone any experience of how a service improves a preamp?

In my experience around 10 years under normal usage, though I did mine after 12 years. I have see some forum members recapping theirs as early as 8 years. I have to admit that after a full on service from Naim HQ, my amps sounded like it's on it's new life.

Hi Stevie,

GBP48 plus VAT is just for the facsia chnage, right? Not include the servicing.

If the HiCap is old-old-style (chrome bumper) then it will still sound a little different to an olive fascia unit - a little softer, a little less demanding of the quality of the source.
