Unlikely celebrity fans of bands/artists
Posted by: Kevin-W on 04 April 2008
Here's a thread for a boring Friday afternoon.
Can anyone think of any celebrities who are fans of incongrouous artists?
I've got three.
First there's snooker player Steve "Interesting" Davis, who, interestingly enough is a huge soul buff, and a fan of Northern Soul in particular (he has an absolutely gigantic collection of soul 45s). Then there's his love of out-there French proggers Magma.
Former Lib dem leader Charles Kennedy is a huge Bowie obsessive.
And, best of all, there's a story - and I hope this is true, it's too good not to be - that Hollywood smoothie David Niven was a big fan of Can, and was seen at many of their 1970s concerts on the Continent.
Anyone think of any others? Or anyone who can confirm the Niven story?

Apparently Enoch Powell was a great fan of Richard Wagner, but that might not surprise some, given the that two of them shared particular political and racialist leanings.

Marah
bitterness, a fountain at the sixth station of the Israelites (Ex. 15:23, 24; Num. 33:8) whose waters were so bitter that they could not drink them. On this account they murmured against Moses, who, under divine direction, cast into the fountain "a certain tree" which took away its bitterness, so that the people drank of it. This was probably the 'Ain Hawarah, where there are still several springs of water that are very "bitter," distant some 47 miles from 'Ayun Mousa.
Which is where the mighty band Marah (fronted by David Bielanko pictured below) took its name...

I saw the late, great Jeff Buckley at The Gararage in Islington in 1994. Apparently (although I didn't see him), John McEnroe worked as a roadie for him at that gig, carrying in the amps, etc.
