The New Gear

Posted by: David Patterson on 01 March 2003

Hi folks,
heard the new gear for the first time today and must say was mightily impressed. I thought i was listening to the CDX2 202 250 and bloody good it sounded to, until i was told that it was the 200 amp that was connected.

On another note, you Know the classic Naim picture with the 250 dropped on the floor with the broken floor boards. I reckon the new 250 would have gone right through to the cellar Big Grin

David

I thought you deserved a reply.

I have a new 250 (with 202 - NAPSC - Hicap) and it sure is a different beast to the old 250.

I reckon you get a lot more sound (and sophistication) for your pound, with the new amps.

I had the 92/90 combo and my dealer had a 150 returned for an upgrade so I bought it. WOW! that extra 2 WPC wass incredible and bet the 200 is another step up. I can really blow some bass on my system now and don't think I should upgrade that again till I own my own home. Can't imagine what a 250 or 300 will do.

Yipeeee Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile someone has taken up the challenge, thanks Derek, you have made a sad lonely git happy.

The Saras sounded great to me at the time in that system (1984). I had them till 1996.Never had a pair of speakers for more than a year since!

The Wharfedale Evo 30s are quite stong in the bass and i have them about a foot out from the rear wall.If you demo them against the competion in store they will come accross as pos laid back not bright, they do not impress on aquick fire shoot out (which can be the type of demo you get at this price point) but once in the house simply tune the bass with placement and let the wonderfull midrange and sweet treble flow.
Dont let the fact that What Hifi recomended them put you off!!

Derek,
I did try the saras with a 250 but by this time the LP12(the last turntable i had ) was gone and CD was my only format. The reason for moving on from saras as good as they are was that i felt the sound was too harsh with CD. I loved the way they did bass, even with the lesser amps.

If you hanker after "top-off pictures" there's a full review of the new 250 (and 300) including internal shots of all 3 versions of the former, in this months Hi-Fi +.
