Forum Rugby Club - new season, new thread

Posted by: JWM on 03 September 2008

Well boys, new season about to start. But let's think already about the end...

Just to keep you boys keen, let's pretend for a moment it might not be another Tigers v Wasps final, let's pretend that anyone could be in it, even Glaws...

Before long we'll have the chance to book ahead for seats (whoever's in the final). Forum Rugby Club day out at Twickers? Hifi morning. Beer. Rugby (a whole row together, around the half way line). More beer. Pie. (Or perhaps a corporate tailgate party? Mark?). More beer.

There's potential in this...

Wasps absolutely ripped Newcastle to shreds today and surely must be back on course for a play off place now.

Allez, allez, allez....

Ah, but Sheridan missed!

Saw it for first time today on ITV4. Sheridan didn't miss, rather White took his inaugural blow squarely on the chin; whereas Sheridan then knew to go down from the punch he received in retaliation... I'm not going to argue about White going, but Sheridan should have got at least a yellow.

Unfortunately, the highlights never show enough of the general play for me to enter any judgement about whether the ref should go to the optician or not.

For such a poor team, Tigers seem to have a surprisingly good record! Not only the most number of league points (to date) but equally the least number of losses (6) and draws (1).

It is gratifying that after an unfortunately unsettled period with regard to head coach, they are really firing on all cylinders (as evidenced by 3/4 match with 14 men against a quality side like Sale, and winning) under Richard Cockerill - give that man the job!

It is fashionable to go for Southern Hemisphere coaches, but Cockers, Deano, etc, show just how much homegrown talent we have.

This thread has become a bit Tigers and Pests. C'mon folks, how about views from other points of view? I tried to get that going with my post about ELVs (thanks, Wazza, for response) and we've got the Lions' tour coming up as well. In the words of tonym's neighbour, "Let's be having you!"

It might be down to a lack of passion from other rugby fans who probably prefer cricket or football for some strange reason.
Still you can`t beat a bit of banter between a winning team and some pests as you yourself put it.
Not sure how wasps will make the play off`s though

Should have added, this is bound to be a boost to Tigers' confidence going into this last phase of the season - if they can do this with 14 men, think what they should be capable of with 15!

Well, I am very excited about the Lions Tour and I am not even British (although I am in London and marrying a local). I don't think there is much that matches a Lions Tour for excitement. I think a lot of that comes down to the fact that it is rare and that it is a full inbound tour. I remember the excitement around the full All Black tour to South Africa in '96.

I think they Boks will be too strong though. Their teams look very strong in the S14.

Easy. If we win all remaining games with bonus points and two or three clubs in the top few lose all of theirs...we're in.

It could happen!!!

Excellent, you`ve been going through my parents photographs of me in my prime as a fit and ruggedly handsome teenager. I am a bit rougher now as well as being bigger and a lot more powerfull but not as well honed as the picture suggests

Well done, Leicester! And an exciting game to boot, after a predictably tentative start by both sides in such a key game.

Had a great day on saturday at HQ it was an absolute whitewash of gloucester by the cardiff blues 50-12. The blues just ran amok amongst gloucester playing with flair, power and pace with which the opposition just could not cope and it was clear from the first 10 minute`s that gloucester were in for a kicking even though they were given a penalty try and also managed a try of their own. They were just out classed and out played in every way.Gloucester must have been demoralised as well because the sea of red shirts [their supporters] started to leave early in the second half after the blue`s started knocking out try after try.
Roll on the Guiness prem final.

Gloucester 'Director of Rugby' Dean Ryan, has spoken of 'rebuilding from scratch'. I suspect that might include 'rebuilding from scratch ... including a new Director of Rugby'...
