Forum Rugby Club - new season, new thread

Posted by: JWM on 03 September 2008

Well boys, new season about to start. But let's think already about the end...

Just to keep you boys keen, let's pretend for a moment it might not be another Tigers v Wasps final, let's pretend that anyone could be in it, even Glaws...

Before long we'll have the chance to book ahead for seats (whoever's in the final). Forum Rugby Club day out at Twickers? Hifi morning. Beer. Rugby (a whole row together, around the half way line). More beer. Pie. (Or perhaps a corporate tailgate party? Mark?). More beer.

There's potential in this...

...says the Wasp.

To be in 8th at Christmas and looking fairly indifferent; having an acting head coach for most of the rest of the season, not confirmed until the last three weeks of the regular season; finishing top of the English League by some margin and winning the English League Cup; being a finalist in the European Cup the next Saturday, making a good game of it and losing only by the margin of one penalty kick ... yup, really crap season, and Wasps clearly wouldn't have wanted it...

Ah, there you are!

what a cracking game, Leinster certainly deserved the win and were the more hungry for the cup than tigers. The fact that they put over two drop goal`s straight away showed just how desperate and scared they were of playing tigers. Roll on next season

Farewell and thanks to Josh Lewsey and Martin Corry, loyal servants to England and their clubs (Corry especially, of course Winker), who have both played their last game on English soil, in the Baa-Baas' defeat of England at HQ.

England 26 - Hasbeens 33!!

Seriously, that was the best display from a Baa Baas team for many a year.

There were quite a few old boys in that team and they rolled back the years to put in a marvellous display. Not only did they preserve the traditional 'throw it around' style of Barbarians rugby, but the tackling was incredible and has probably never been seen from a Baa Baas team before. It was only when the codgers were tiring towards the end that England got a look in.

Brilliant stuff and what about Brits and Elsom?!!

A pretty poor start to the Lions tour and a flattering scoreline at the end. They will need to do much better than that not to be blown away by the Springboks.

Never the less we won and it`s a start, they have not had much time to gel and find their feet together, so maybe the next game will tell a bit more. Patience my friend Patience

I hope so, DL, I hope so.

Bath situation - obviously some funny business has gone on. Recreational rather than PEDs?
Posted on: 03 June 2009 by Chillkram
Perhaps Matt Stevens was only the tip of the iceberg.
Posted on: 03 June 2009 by Chillkram
74-10, that's better.

I did say have some patience, so let`s hope they are fired up now but they still have a few week`s to go before test one and this win will give them confidence with each other.
P.S did i see that a tiger scored a try

Isn`t he EX wasps and it would seem he had no heart in them for some time, so don`t think that count`s. Although it is rumored that he will coach wasp`s academy next season

Oop`s, Roll Eyes well at least the tiger scored the try even though the wasp told him to Winker Big Grin

And what about Stephen Ferris, the back row forward, outstripping Pretorious, the winger, over 70 yards at the end?!!
Posted on: 06 June 2009 by Chillkram
Well Ferris did it again, showing his pace and power today scoring a fantastic try. But he then got himself sent off and that was a bit a a turning point in the game. After 20 mins it was Cheatahs 0 - Lions 20 and looked as though it would be a rout. In the end it was a narrow victory 24-26. Again the Saturday team struggle somewhat.

I'm sure it probably was because Tom Croft wasn't playing! Roll Eyes

Australia's 55-7 destruction of the Baa Baas puts England's defeat last week into context!
Posted on: 06 June 2009 by Chillkram
Although England beat Argentina 37-15 and it was better, the same old problems are evident. They are still giving away needless possession and failure to draw the defender before playing the pass means that they struggle to execute when they have good positions.

Banahan had a decent game, as did Delon Armitage, as usual.

Argentina are not the team they were at the world cup and were reliant on Hernandez' boot. That said England's defence was good.

And what about Cueto's 2 passes for Armitage's tries....Scholes eat your heart out!!

Don't think so, DL. You need to find yourself a pub that's showing it.

They are shown on S4C in the evening ( not live ) - not much use if you don't live in Wales . I am resisting adding the Lions to my Sky Package as I'm a bit old fashioned and think that the World Cup / Lions Tours / cricket should be free to view. And....what has happened to Shane Williams - a combination of losing his confidence and trying too hard. Hopefully he can produce some magic on this tour

He hasn't been on it for a while in my opinion. Leigh Halfpenny, Martin Williams and Jamie Roberts have been doing the Welsh proud, though. And for the life of me I cannot understand why Ryan Jones is not out there.
