Forum Rugby Club - new season, new thread
Posted by: JWM on 03 September 2008
Well boys, new season about to start. But let's think already about the end...
Just to keep you boys keen, let's pretend for a moment it might not be another Tigers v Wasps final, let's pretend that anyone could be in it, even Glaws...
Before long we'll have the chance to book ahead for seats (whoever's in the final). Forum Rugby Club day out at Twickers? Hifi morning. Beer. Rugby (a whole row together, around the half way line). More beer. Pie. (Or perhaps a corporate tailgate party? Mark?). More beer.
There's potential in this...

Sadly I am a realist about modern day broadcasting money in sports. But I am simply not willing to pay (as far as I can work out looking at their prices, obligatory basic package plus sports upgrades) some £40-£50 per month for Sky.

I did think about that but for some reason i always end up with a squiffy head and lighter pockets

Would you like to go to the next Tigers v Wasps game at Welford Rd as we did a couple of seasons ago? I missed seeing you at our annual excursion to Twickers and we could make a day of it again.

That would be great (and anyone else is very welcome to come to the cradle of English Club Rugby Union - combines nicely with a visit to Cymbiosis) Or even Wasps vs Tigers (is parking easy in High Wycombe for London Wasps?). Depends on match scheduling.

There is a park and ride but it takes around an hour to get back to the car park. Also there is no Cymbiosis around and Martin Kleiser in nearby Beaconsfield is no longer!
Tigers at Welford Rd is usually first in the schedule.
Maybe we could arrange a bunch of us and a proper day at Cymbiosis with Peter's blessing!

I forgot to mention, at the moment there is a thread on the Tigers' Forum about suggestions for new items for the Tigers' Shop for the new Season. My own humble suggestion : Wasps' bog-seats...

Lions squeaked it today. Bowe had a good game as did Williams and Worsley. Sheridan is not a top class prop for me. Whilst he has the bulk and the muscle he just doesn't have the technique.
Shame about Ferris, and with me having moaned about Ryan Jones not being there, he flys out and lasts one day before being sent home injured!

Writing in from NZ here, I have to say I was very impressed by the french performance last night. Frankly they look like a very capable side with no major weaknesses. They sure have some big men and admittedly that was the first time in a long time I have seen the All Blacks loose due to a lack of physical dominance/parity. Given their size and physical approach I thought the french lasted pretty well in the second half. Having said that, this is a very young All Black side missing a number of its best players and was the first game of the season. All is not lost and I would be surprised if they don't look a considerably better team next week. It was no doubt something of a rude awakening!
What is the northern hemisphere view on this French side? What test match results have they had of late? I don't really keep track of the northern hemisphere season... please excuse my ignorance and I apologise if this comes across as a tad arrogant/oblivious.

I watched the game and was a little surprised by the comments about the size and physicality of the French. England hammered them in the Six Nations and I suspect NZ will in the next game. They blow hot and cold and undoubtedly have talent, but cannot sustain a consistent level of performance.
If NZ bully them at the breakdown, as I suspect they might next time, they will roll over. You could have done with McCaw, Williams and So'oialo - they would not have been outmuscled or out-thought.

First test on saturday need to find a local pub because i`ve got a good feeling about this, geech`s being quiet about the test squad so the bok`s don`t know what is about to hit them + they have injury`s to key players as well

That must have been one of the biggest Lions packs ever that played yesterday.

Man i am stressed to f@#k the ref gave some dodgy penalties but f#@k me did the lions play out of there skins in the last 30 mins or what. to top it all i took the plunge and ordered sky sports one and the tosser on the phone said it will be between 30 mins and 4 hours before i got the picture on the telly. It came on as the whistle blew for full time, i was listening to radio 5 live. If i would have been next to him i would have punched his F@#KING LIGHTS OUT AND THEN SOME.

p.s Going to a party tonight and woebetide the poor bastard that decide`s to piss me off

The Lions may have lost, but at least they saw why they should have taken Tom Croft in the first place, and not left him as an after-thought...

Still haven't had a chance to watch the game after two whole days at Silverstone. I saw Croft's tries though, well played him.
I also think it is time Vickery was left to the mid week team.

I completely and absolutely agree
We should have won that game

Desperately disappointing to watch the Lions lose against the Boks with the last kick of the game. They had played magnificently for 50 minutes or so but began to unravel when Adam Jones and Gethin Jenkins went off injured, they had dominated the scrum and been dynamic in the loose. Then they lost O'Driscoll and Jamie Roberts from midfield along with Tommy Bowe on the wing, all of whom had been playing well. I think this gave some momentum to the Springboks and enabled them to haul back in the Lions.
Standout players on either side, though, were Simon Shaw, who played the best I've ever seen him play, and Rob Kearney who was just magnificent.
They did well against undoubtedly the best team in the world and, with a few more games together would, I believe, take that mantle themselves.

Especially given the Springboks' cheating / the ref's blindness. Perhaps Burger gouged his eyes as well??
Posted on: 30 June 2009 by deadlifter
Burger has been given a 8 match ban i think and bakkies botha a two match ban. that was a red card offence and the ref was told by bryce lawrence that a minimum of a yellow should be given [meaning red card], i wonder how much the ref got for being lenient ???? ££££
And as for o`gara the mind boggles. They only had to keep posession. Also how did the Boks get substituted men back on the pitch ????
Another 4 years then men.

Well done South Africa. No team from these (British) islands ever deserves to win anything
