Stylus Cleaning

Can anyone recommend a brush or alternative for cleaning the stylus on a turntable?

At the risk of sounding rude, try the search facility, it lists 10 full pages on this subject.

I've just discovered the Onzow Zerodust stylus cleaner. It's some sort of hi-tech, ultra soft as a baby's bum plastic pad into which you stick your stylus. Lo and behold it comes out clean as a whistle.
It's good.
It's good.

I use an Audio-Technica AT637 Electronic Stylus Cleaner. I am too much of a wooss to use the green paper on an Akiva.

This is the best and safest stylus cleaner I've ever used. The cover is a magnifying glass to help you see the condition of the stylus.

I use a Linn green paper more than the Signet vibrating thingy as I am too much of a wuss on an Akiva.

way OTT since i clean my vinyl with RRL/Mo-Fi, vacuum, rinse with distilled H20, and vacuum again, but after 6 sides or so, i like the Disc Doctor fluid with the supplied stiff bristle brush followed by the Onzow Zerodust to lap up any remaining debris.

Jesus Corey.
Is that a some kind of therapy?

nah... stylus/canteliver hygeine is a must if you prefer "bumping the groove" raw.

I've been using an AEG angle grinder on my Arkiv for a number of years now, and the system has been very quiet ever since.

I use an AT637 although I do reach for the Green paper now and again.
I've seen Joe using the Onzow at his place too, and it certainly seemed to do a good job.
Craig - now I understand!
Kind regards,
Peter

I use Lasy Stylus Cleaner after every session and have had no problems in 18 months of use. No detectable distortion or mistracking so I presume its doing its job well and they have been making the stuff for nearly 30 years.
You can buy it online.

the danger of using liquids like LAST is not nistracking but the liquid creeping up the cantilever and deoriating the glue the stylus is attached to the cantilever.
a lot of german guys in the aaa-forum are not using LAST any longer due to this and other reasons.
all i use is a simple stylus brush.

I've had no problems and only time will tell if the liquid causes any problems in the cantilever assembly. But my guess is that the stylus will be worn out before that happens. Lyra and Clearaudio make liquid cleaners so I see no problem there really and as I have said Last have been around for 30 years so their products must work. And I have only heard of a few cantilevers failing since I've been reading fora.

Zerodust is very effective, easy to use and lasts a lifetime.

I use combinations of Zerodust, an AT637 vibrating cleaner, and that Discwasher brush kit thingy.
All of them seem to work reasonably well, with the Zerodust being easiest to use, and the Discwasher brush useful for quick cleans between LPs.
Can you use deionised water to clean the Zerodust, BTW?

Just ordered the Onzow. Cheers everyone who mentioned it.

I like the Onzow too, but sometimes the stylus gets a thread on there that won't come off without a brush of some type. I really like the MoFi LP#9 liquid, which cleans and claims to be a stylus preservative as well. I'm not sold on the second claim, but it does clean very nicely.

Onzow does not clean the stylus per se. ( I still managed to ruin a cartridge )
It takes a schmutz (sp) off it and I have heard some case takes a stylus off it, too. ( hasn't happened to me, however )

Just use the simple Linn green paper. I've used it for 17 years and it's never done any damage and the cartridge is always clean.
Stop faffing around.

Is damage caused by the Onzow common?

A soft camel hair brush for gently brushing away fluff bunnies and another vote for Linn green paper to clean the tip occasionally. If you are thinking of using alcohol based cleaning solution be very carefull not to get it on the cantilever rubber suspension.
