Or not. After all, Charles Mackerras is still maintaining a pretty heavy conducting schedule, despite the fact he'll be 83 in November and displays a level of stamina on the podium that would put plenty of people half his age to shame.
I might try and get to his Edinburgh gig, it would be great to hear him live.

I keep a good level on tests.
For a second my brain produced the idea that our young Gordon fell into a "grumpy old age" paranoia and wished for him some "shake that hips" alternative amusement.
Only for a second.

Bob, where are the tickets on sale from?
regards, Tam
Posted on: 14 March 2008 by Bob McC
Ticketmaster by internet or the Manchester Palace box office in person.
Probably all gone now but the Manchester Thursday Jume 19th gig is not on sale and is reported to be for Guardian readers, details in the April 4th edition. I kid you not!

Yeh that's one http://www.isleofwightfestival.com/isle-of-wight-festival-1970.aspx
Between that & the Bath Festival that year saw every act worth seeing at that time!
The Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music was a music festival held at the Bath and West Showground in Shepton Mallet on the 27-28th June 1970. It featured a lineup of the top American west coast and British bands of the day, including Donovan, Mothers of Invention, Santana, The Flock, Led Zeppelin (headlining act), Hot Tuna, Country Joe McDonald, Colosseum, Jefferson Airplane (set aborted), The Byrds (acoustic set), Moody Blues (unable to play), Dr. John (acoustic set), Frank Zappa, Canned Heat, It's a Beautiful Day, Steppenwolf, Johnny Winter, John Mayall, Pink Floyd, Fairport Convention, and Keef Hartley. This lineup eclipsed the more famous Isle Of Wight festival held in August of the same year, but as it attracted less press coverage at the time and was a smaller affair, it has generally received less attention in the years since. The show started at midday on the 27th (a Saturday) and finished at about 6:30 am on Monday morning....Jim
Just checked the lineup for this year No comparason!

Jim,
I was there and a fantastic event it was. I have Freddy Bannister's Just Broken Even that brings back great memories.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to go. It's not cheap and the only ones left are the side stands meaning you'll be craning round all evening - I know someone who went to a concert there last year and said it wasn't the best of venues.

They won't be available for long Tam. Manchester sold out in 20 minutes for 3 nights!
