Nait 2 mega gain

Posted by: Top Cat on 23 April 2001

Wow, what's with the super-sensitive gain on the Nait 2 - it's really difficult to get the right listening levels with a CD player plugged into the Aux inputs - is this a known characteristic?

Other than that, fine wee amp.

John

PS. Does anyone know of a cheap wee CD player which does music well and is of similar dimensions to the funky Nait 2?

Hi there, John.

Yep, it's a well known fact of the little Nait-2.
I owned a old-style Nait-2 first, which has more
gain problems at low listening level than the new-style Nait-2. (which I use now)
The more recent Nait-2 seem to have a better volume-pot. (I guess)
The Nait-3 doesn't have the gain-problem. (tried it!)

I don't know of any shoe-box sized CD-player which does any justice to the funky Nait-2.
(well, Cyrus may look a little the same, but doesn't have what it takes to let your Nait-2 give it's best.)

A rega planet or (s/h?) Nait-3 or 3.5 would definetly be a better choice.
I owned a Cyrus 1 CD-player before I got me the
Naim 3.5. The cyrus cd was better with a Cyrus amp, just as the Naim CD is best with Naim amplification.

Greetings,
Alco.
