Feels like the first time

Decided we needed a new amp to replace the alpha6, so duly went off the listen to Arcam FMJ A22, Nait 5, and was going to try 112/140 but dealer had a second hand 92R/180 which was at a very reasonable price (of course).
The rest was as my existing system P3/10x4, Tom Evans Micro Groove and Royd Minstrels. Used a range of music, interesting track was off (a bad pressing?) Highway 61 Revisited. Bob was almost unlistenable on my original system, very splashy with no sense of timing (percussion sounded like next door neighbour randomly shaking the knife draw). Arcam was OK, smoother than my alpha6 but not as involving The A22 tamed things a bit but almost totally lost the treble. Nait was better, improved tonal balance but still not much rhythm. The 92R/180 changed things totally. I thought the pr&t thing was all about subtle differences, how wrong I was, things finally made sense musically. I know this is probably old hat to most of you lot but it was a bit of a revelation to me.
Now the proud owner of a 92R/180. Also listened to hicap, 82 then SBLs. I made the mistake of bringing the chief financial controller along. I thought this would tame my gadget freak tendencies and prevent recrimination when the MasterCard bill arrived. This was a mistake, all she was interested in when we got home (!) was how to fit the SBLs into the lounge.

Lo Fi Si,

Sounds like you enjoyed the whole experience! Good dealer who realy helped and a financial controller who dispelled the guilt complex!

Enjoy the music, the only purpose of the hifi is to bring it to life.

Cheers

Don

I've just listened to Tombstone Blues from "Highway 61 Revisited" and "Dylan Unplugged".

Young Bob - commitment, attitude, got something to say.

Old Bob - well, erm, has he gone to sleep !
