R4 Book of the Week/Flamenco

Posted by: Dobbin on 13 February 2003

Have been catching R4's book of the week whilst driving to work the past few days and the experience has prompted be to have a gander at Flamenco music.

Anyone got any suggestions for good discs?

Hi Dobbin,

I asked the same question two years ago. The best I found was Gerardo Nunez, "Calima" -- a mixture of Flamenco, Eastern music and jazz. Stunningly good.

Some Flamenco Suggestions:

Vicente Amigo and Enrique Morente are both excellent guitarists. Morente is more of an innovator and similar to the world-renowed Paco de Lucia.

For those who prefer a less pure flamenco, Chano Dominguez plays with a sensual, more jazz-infused style.
