Spotify - the best jukebox in the world?
Posted by: Diccus62 on 12 February 2009
Just downloaded the free version and was listening to Alela Diane' last album and now Elvis Presley's In the Ghetto. No buffering, no downloading, no sound drop out, good sound quality (IMO). Anyone else using it? They reckon most artists are on here with the exception of a few (Oasis, Beatles)

I'm quite impressed, a couple of failures so far, but mainly very good, even the ads aren't too intrusive.
Thanks again for Diccus

God, you're cruel, you have obviously never read this
"Visible from spaceā¦
From space, astronauts have only two reference points on Earth: the Great Wall of China and Belgium. For many years, NASA has called the glow generated by the illuminated Belgian motorway system - a tangle of strings of light - "the Belgian window".
which was taken from here
Belgium
But even better we have over 400 types of beer..........hmmm, now I think about it maybe there a correlation between the two things.
and I didn't even mention the Belgian cuisine, or the fantastic chocolate.
So it's not a complete disaster here

I'm reading and listening to '1001 Albums you Must Hear Before you Die'.
I've set up a playlist for 50s, 60's, 70's etc. It's great for learning about new music. I'm in the 80's at the moment. How bad was the 80's - I've got about 3 tracks in it at the moment! I reckon they bled it from the 70's because OMD were so lonely!
Spotify is the Biz. If I could be bothered to go through the stress of getting in running with SB it would be totally happening man.

Forgive me, I know little about Squeezebox but can you not connect PC directly e.g. via USB cable?
I have an M-audio usb DAC/ADC (at about 1/3 the price of a squeezebox) hooked up to my pre and I simply plug in the usb to my laptop and hey presto, music through the system whether spotify/last/i-tunes whatever. OK so it's not wi-fi but takes ooooh...about 2 seconds to do.

Hi all.
Newbie here - first post, please be gentle!
I'm not a Naim-ee at the moment, but hope it's ok to post in the music forum.
I'm loving Spotify at the moment.
I was thinking - if I bought a 3.5mm jack to RCA connector (such as the Monster iCable) will this allow me to connect laptop to amp and get Spotify tracks through my system? e.g. Headphone out on laptop to Aux or Vid on amp (a Nad310, again, be gentle, saving the pennies for an XS).

Absolutely, that's how I listen to it from my MAC.

Diccus - Thanks for this Spotify Jukebox link. It is very good and is going to save me lots of money. For instance, I have just tried out the new John Scofield album on Spotify and as OK as it is I have just saved myself a tenner. Normally I would always buy his CD's but with a quick listen on the jukebox already know that this would be one of those CD's that would remain on the shelf after one listen. I can satisfy my curiosity of a disc and not have to actually buy it to find that I am not too bothered by it. Interesting economics behind this thing. I wonder how well the artists do out of it and on balance whether it would increase their sales. Now trying out Harold Budd - Lovely Thunder.

The Naim forum may not be the best place to ask this, but I've tried the Spotify webpage and blog and couldn't find the answer.
Does anyone know if you can edit your playlists effectively? For example, can I alphabetise them so I can find the album I want to hear more quickly?
Cheers for any help or prods in the right direction.

I have been using Spotify almost from day one. I am amazed how quickly the available library has grown.
Rather thaan stopping me from buying CD's I am actually buying more as I have listened first and then bought the albums.
It is a wonderful resource and puts me in mind of the record shops in the 60's where try before you by was the norm in those little listening booths. Older members will remember these well!
