To all Rega users/Analog Part II

Posted by: Reto D on 18 October 2002

Hi,

A recommendation for a zero base analog user was to go for a Rega P2 (see "why should I go analog" thread) rather than investing a lot of money for a Linn, at least for a first step:

My question is, how good is a Rega P2? Will I be satisfied for a longer time? Can you recommend his machine?

Thank you.

Go and listen to a much better Vinyl system, either LP12, P9, the usual suspects at a dealers or get one for home demo. Then decide if you want to add such a delight to your system. If money is the issue then wait. I know you have no records, but why would you want a TT if you had no records, so i presume you have access to them! or are prepared to buy some.

If you buy a P2, you'll want more (and will be disappointed compared to CDX/XPS) with your system and the phono boards in Naim pre's are great! You would have to spend a tidy sum to get a phono stage to be much better than the Naim boards.

Of course, this is all IMHO

If all you want to do is dip your toe in vinyl then a rega p3 is a great deck for the money. You would need to spend more if you wanted to obtain a more balanced system although the right vinyl will probably give you quite a surprise as to the quality on offer.

I started with a p2 and moved on to a p3. The performance difference is considerable considering the small difference in cost. The p3 has greater depth and control and is a lot better listen. I don't know much about M/M cartridges suitable for a p3.
