It has to be the sideboard

Posted by: labrat on 25 April 2003

I have recently purchased a cd5/112/150 and I am truely a happy creature.

However, my darling wife insists that the house absolutely will not accomodate a dedicated support and our very substantial sideboard will have to do!

She will not be reasoned with, she shall however be obeyed. I should have read those vows before I agreed to them in public.

What advice (apart from the obvious....) does anyone have with regards to stacking my components on the sideboard?

When I eventually decide to add a flatcap how will this best be fitted in?

Yes and before you say it my first upgrade should be a less powerfull wife!

Time for a new sideboard. Specially customized to conceal the rack of your choice.

Labrat I feel your pain!!

Mine sits inside a large behemouth sideboard with four pine shelves and two large doors and four drawers on the other side. The remote only works with the doors open and the open doors stick out into the room. So on goes a CD..close the doors....sit on the couch....crap not loud enough...get up open the doors...turn it up... shut the doors...back to the couch..skip a song...get up open the doors...you might as well sell the 112 and get a 32.

If she really must be obeyed well so be it.

We can't be the only two with Fraim envy. Any other members making the best of this type of situation and having some sonic success?

Pictures and isolation success stories welcome.

Thanks

1) Don trousers.

2) Put Foot Down.

3a) Buy dedicated support.

3b) Buy her a new frock or some trinkets or something.

4) Enjoy music and marital bliss minus the bald patch.

Steve Wink

Bless you steve, your girlie is going to eat you for breakfast, and not in a good way.

One other option. You've just spent approx two and a half grand on your system. Do you think she'd go for an even better sideboard or other similarly lovely piece of furniture.
Make sure that she picks it, but along the way, get it to meet the requirements for your equipment to fit. Even better if it has a way to let the RC work.

Hasn't your wife heard of give and take?

You give, she takes!!

Give up on the dedicated hi-fi stand, they always win.

Ps, you can get a divorce for around £500. On of the best upgrades you can make!!

I don't think so. Cool

She won't cut off her nose..., she's far too intelligent for that.

She cannot understand why women force their menfolk to hide their hi-fi under a bushel. She looks forward to being able to invite her girlie-mates round to listen to a few tunes while I'm at work. Red Face

Steven

You are too good to be a taxi driver...how about using your talents to become a relationshion counsellor.

Perhaps Paul Stephenson could give you a weekend slot in a dedicated section of the forum.
