Sistem pics 2003

Posted by: Steve Toy on 14 January 2003

Here are a few crappy pics. I've got some of Stallion's rig too, but I await his permission to post them.

I need to get the file size down. I see that we now get 50k Smile

Regards,

Steve.

I think a couple of recent posters of pics to this thread would benefit enormously from getting some proper equipment supports.

If you need to persuade SWMBO as to such benefits, then you are clearly under the thumb, and you need to start putting your Foot Down Wink

A dem of some decent stands would be a good idea, and make sure that she also gets to hear the benefits. Women's hearing is at least as good as mens'.

Women may feel threatened by any kind of hi-fi upgrade, especially one involving speakers or stands cos they come under the category of living room furniture, which is HER domain and not yours.

Also, as it's been stated elsewhere, upgraditis is a disease that wimmins think will spread beyond the hi-fi..., that they may also be upgraded or a better model, or worse still, be kept and sited on a better proprietary shelf. Red Face

In the face of such adversity, I'd try the manipulative approach Wink :

"My system is so hamstrung by inappropriate supports that I may as well sell the lot, buy a mini-system that we can just park on the shelf and forget about and I know at least that you'll be happy..."

I am sooo glad I got into this hi-fi habit before my missus came into my life. She accepts it as an integral part of me, she doesn't feel threatened by it, and therefore the only issue where both of us are concerned will be affordability.

She has become used to how my system sounds, and has two points of reference herself in the form of other home systems costing considerably more than mine (JW's and Stallion's). She can identify (minor) shortcomings in my system, and I'm able to come up with possible solutions - for example, a better front end, and she's mindful of the cost of such upgrades.

The "technical" side of benefits that such upgrades may bring goes over her head as she freely admits, but I know she'd enjoy the results herself from a musical perspective.

She knows that the money would be well-spent if/when we have it to spend.

Regards,

Steve.

Here is my schizophrenic system.

Sometimes it seetles down and plays some good music

Other times it goes to the Cinema

An advantage of being divorced is no complaintsabouttaking over the living space

mariot,

I really like the look of your room, could you tell me what colour you've used on the walls.

ah... I thought I'd detected some subtle shading in there but obviously not. Looks very good though.

Hi Mariot,

Your place looks great. I wouldn't worry too much about what Stephen Toy says. He just regurgitates other people's silly stuff.

Thing is he's getting married sometime mid-century, which makes him the expert on all matters matrimonial, such as proper hifi stands. Wink

I guess I could be out of the loop. Nonetheless, I want to let you know that I was a little hurt by your comment.

Well, you shouldn't be, although I did piss myself a bit at the poor guy who is forced to hide his decent and expensive kit under a bushel in the form of an oak dresser and doors with diamond-shaped leaded windows afront as his only concession to owning such nasty little boys' toys.

A couple of years back I went round a guy's house whose kit was huddled in the corner of the room as his missus wanted it to be. We spent a good couple of hours repositioning his speaks either side of double doors, levelling them and spiking them on 2p pieces as a compromise so as not to damage the polished wooden flooring, installing new cables (discarded Jamo cables of mine that were a lot better than his bell wire stuff) and then we pressed play...

He grinned from ear to ear, and the lot cost me and him precisely sweet FA. His missus came home and said that the speaks had to go back to where they were before... He said, "ok, yeah ok, whatever...," but they haven't moved since, afaik.

I think the truth hurts sometimes, and the cap may fit.., but if your passion (other than her) is the enjoyment of recorded music in your living (or other) room then your nearest-and-dearest should be more supportive of that part of you, imho.

Mine gets bored by hi-fi bollox chat, but her only issue regarding upgrades is cost and whether we could afford it. Masses of angle iron are also a no-no where she is concerned, but I'm not going to argue with her on that score... Red Face Wink

Would you be jealous of all that space by any chance?

Yes I would, as I'd love a bigger room for my kit, and I'm sure that when the time comes I'll be in a position to utilise the bigger space available as I (we music lovers) see fit... Razz

Herm,

How's it going mate? Smile

Regards,

Steve.

mariot,

Don't worry about it. As it happens I wasn't being sarcastic. The only reason I asked was because I thought your walls had a very slight hint of gray/blue (when compared to the ceiling and window frames) and look pretty good with black speakers. I've got black SBLs

My walls are white with a hint of cream and I'm thinking of repainting.

Neil,

Take those "passive radiators" (i.e. surplus loudspeakers) out of the room and things should sound a lot better.
