Sistem pics 2003

Posted by: Steve Toy on 14 January 2003

Here are a few crappy pics. I've got some of Stallion's rig too, but I await his permission to post them.

I need to get the file size down. I see that we now get 50k Smile

Regards,

Steve.

Hi Neil,
What kind of main cables are you using for your Naims?

Regards,
Km
Posted on: 21 April 2003 by neil w
km
the cable is called 6MM 3 CORE SY bought from local city electrical factors ( in the phone book nationwide )
apparently the sy stands for the silver braiding
the iecs are wattgate 320 clear,s bought of the internet rather cheaper than in the uk
hope this helps neil

I think not. Domestic politics are often the bane of a hi-fi enthusiast's life, but only if he lets it be so. Hi-fi is perceived as an exclusively male domain by a dominant female, so she can use it as a means of stamping her authority on the marital home.

It is also true that most men have some kind of hobby, sport or interest, whereas most women are just contented with chatting to friends, clothes, accessories and make-up shopping, watching soaps and eating chocolate interspersed with dieting in their spare time Wink This paragraph is as male-chauvinistic as the one above is the complete opposite.

My own partner actually stated that £2300 on an XPS2, for example, would actually be less of a waste of money than than if she were to spend an average of £50 on clothes every saturday afternoon for a year that may only be worn once before being filed in the wardrobe.

This tangent is relevant to this thread as it is a commentary to the pics of members' sistems in their respective domestic environments.

Anyway, wot I sez goes on this thread cos it's mine - I started it! Wink

Steve.

What a load of crap

Whereas your advice on Naim kit is always appreciated, your advice on relationships is inappropriate, ill-advised, and poorly conceived, and best ignored.

Best regards,

Bruce

Do you have domestic issues best aired away fom this place perchance? Wink

My matrimonial "advice" is only anecdotal, or comes with a " Wink " disclaimer. Feel free to share with us your own anecdotes on such matters. If I can't be of any help, I'm sure others may be able to help you in any way they can.

Steve.

A genuine question relating to a number of the pictures in this thread: lots of forum members have nice systems arranged on nice racks, in between or very close to, their speakers. Am I the only person who finds this odd? If you're worried about isolation, keep your gear away from the speakers, otherwise you might as well put it on the floor as a rack.

Hi Ian,

You're probably right, but... some people don't/hardly have a choice.
Besides from the fact that I like the looks of the system in between the speakers.

To stay ON-topic I'll try to post some new pic's of my system today.
I did a small change to my system support, which made it sound better, without spending a dime! Smile (and it also looks better imho)

ok, here are the last pic's I made about 30 minutes ago:

I did some minor changes to my Quadraspire Q4 support.
I took off the topplate, which made it 15cm/6" lower, since I currently have only 3 pieces of Naim gear(72/180/CDX)I'll keep the extra plate and spacers as a spare, ...just in case.

Since the Q4 (now Q3) is standing in between the speakers, this was an improvement.
I guess because the whole system support is now about 15cm/6" lower and the quite heavy NAP180 is now placed on the botom-shelf, the whole thing is now sturdier.

Also I took the whole support apart and put it back toghether with the shelves upside down!
Imho, the bottomside of the shelves look better/more polished Smile

Here are some (poor) pic's:
(I'm gonna look for a better digi-cam asapFrown )

I'll give you one week before you stick the 72 back where it belongs...on the second shelf! Its CDX/72/180 remember.

And beg/borrow/steal a HiCap soon as you can

NICE telly!! But where's the turntable...

When the music's over turn out the lights

Alco,
I note your "upside-down" Quadraspire. Mine has always been "upside-down", as it seemed the obvious way to assemble it!
It certainly looks better. Is there any sonic difference?

Ah, nice to hear Steve, that I'm not the only one Big Grin
I posted the same pics on a 'system pics' topic at a Dutch HiFi Forum. I only got replies from people telling how ugly it looked.

I never intended to assemble it "upside-down", but when I unpacked the support, I found the bottomside more to my liking. (more polished, the colour was more to my taste)
Also this way the shelves look slitghtly thikker.

I only noticed a sonic improvement by removing the topshelve, because the whole support is now about 15cm/6" lower.
