Sistem pics 2003

Posted by: Steve Toy on 14 January 2003

Here are a few crappy pics. I've got some of Stallion's rig too, but I await his permission to post them.

I need to get the file size down. I see that we now get 50k Smile

Regards,

Steve.

I can see some Korean items in your listening room. My son is half Korean! And I am half Japanese...

Maybe you will read this if you check in.

I travel to Asia on business hence the Korean Items. Actually the Dolls are Korean, The vase is Japanese and the wall mural is Chinese.

Hi Saiful AJ

[QUOTE] Have you compared the Classic with Nait5 or 3? Just curious how phonosophie amp may be similar or different to naim amps.

Yes, I compared the classic amp to the NAIT3 of a friend (Hi Volker). Presentation was quite similar with little bit more refined top and bottom ends. It does not built up a deep soundstage but instead of this it projects the musicians towards you. -ThomasT-

LP12 / Ekos / Super Elys

Either I was using Linn's experimental 450 rpm Lingo III or this was a time exposure - I can't seem to remember which.

Rotel RCD965BX
Denon DRM-07
Naim NAC102
Linn Lingo
Froggle
Naim NAP90 [which has been replaced by a "chrome bumper" 140].

The Tripod stands are designed to be used with the tubular sections just in contact. I now use them with coins over the spike holes, which improves the sound of the turntable (compared with normally stacked Tripods) but makes the CD player sound a bit worse. I'm also use home made MDF boards inplace of the original chipboard, which are good for tonal colour but sound rather harsh and mess up the stereo image...

BTW before anyone mentions it, the cables aren't usually kept in such disarray!

Kans on KanII stands.

Behind them you can see a selection of cheap and nasty chip-board and polypropylene [!!!] furniture - including record storage units. Aesthetic considerations played no part in their purchase...

Lee,

I think your sound would get better if you put some kind of carpet or rug on the floor.

You can try an experiment: listen in your normal chair, then hold a large magazine or newspaper horizontally under your chin. This way, you're blocking the floor reflection from reaching your ears (more or less). You'll probably find the sound a little cleaner and less aggressive.

If you like the effect, put a rug on the floor and experiment a little with position.

entry level it is...and support is rubbish and yes we need a drinks cabinet but it sure makes me smile and dance (for now...looking at NAC282/NAP250/CDX2/XPS2/LP12/Fraim next when and if I get a bonus!!!) Big Grin

Stating the obvious

Woody, wouldn't it be worth your while to unstack the cd5 and the preamp? Surely the coke bottle can rest on the floor. Chances are you will immediately get an even better sound if you seperate the boxes.

Herm,

Indeed it would...I have tried to explain to the missus that if each box had a shelf each it would be much, much better! However, as we currently don't have a drinks cabinet she has claimed a shelf for the bottles etc...still, as she's out of the country until Wednesday I'll try it and check out the difference...is it sonically worth the hassle I'll get though? Eek

Herm,

You are a star...just switched it all on again and immediately notice more detail and bass weight. (I'll hold you responsible if my wife objects to me reclaiming the rack for hifi! Razz

Hi Markus
living in a tropical country, i think the carpet/rug is not so practical. They tend to trap a lot of heat and worse, dust.

I did try with my bedsheet and it did make a difference.

Thanks anyway.

No probs, Lee.

Hey Woody,

glad to be of help, though of course I was only stating the obvious.

You know what you could do to sweeten the pill for your wife a bit, when she comes home tomorrow? Perhaps you have some harmless lightweight pretty thingamagob you could place on top of the pre? If you can find some object that will make that stack a little less bare-naked black boxes visually my guess is you're both going to be happy with the change.

Now I've heard that a house brick on the top can make an improvement. Whaddayathink she'll make of that then, eh? (You could paint it?!)

Show the wife the pics on here, and perhaps she'll realize how cluttered your system looks with her knick-knacks.

I was actually thinking of a couple of these to top the whole system off:

Hehe!

New world record in bullshit!

like:

"Each array is engineered with proprietary technology (patent pending) and made with exotic hardwoods, consisting of staggered activated panels that are mounted on an elegant base that beautifully blends into any style room environment."

and:

"Activated panels generate a musically complimentary reflective energy"

There is well known, much simpler and passive ways of improving the room acoustics and for far less money. And with the added benefit that one doesn't have to think one is in a room where some of the furniture is on acid...

Great eh?
The same company make "Shakti Stones" as well - and Stereophile use them in just about every review I've ever read of theirs. Now that says something!
