Sistem pics 2003

Posted by: Steve Toy on 14 January 2003

Here are a few crappy pics. I've got some of Stallion's rig too, but I await his permission to post them.

I need to get the file size down. I see that we now get 50k Smile

Regards,

Steve.

Under the thumb or what?!

quote:
Indeed it would...I have tried to explain to the missus that if each box had a shelf each it would be much, much better! However, as we currently don't have a drinks cabinet she has claimed a shelf for the bottles etc...still, as she's out of the country until Wednesday I'll try it and check out the difference...is it sonically worth the hassle I'll get though?

If having your kit in separate boxes on separate shelves didn't make a significant sonic improvement, we'd all be running Linn Classiks

Steve,

There's a difficult balancing act for those of us who are married and not very very rich - balancing the needs for hifi with the need for other things that all vie for disposable income (such as cars, boats, holiday homes). Could I afford a 'top of the line' system? Quite probably.
Do I want to? Possibly - after I've enjoyed what I've got *and* done a number of other things I (and my wife) want to do (we're considering property abroad at the moment, for example). Same goes for our living room - yes it's important to have the hifi performing as well as it can, but it's her room too and I respect her wishes...placing speakers under paving slabs has made a large difference. But she has to live here too and if she really feels they're so ugly then I need to consider....Does that make me under the thumb? I think it's being fair.

So is SWMBO banned from your office or just choses not to go there (because it's full of menacing hifi kit)?

When my fiancée and I eventually get a place of our own, the system will probably live in a bedroom along with a sofa bed.

My concerns regarding compromises (or lack thereof) in the marital home are more about a belief that some women deliberately cut off their noses in order just to show who's boss in the living room, (often regarded as her territory) and all the compromising can be a tad one-sided.

A few bottles cluttering up your hi-fi rack (especially a plastic nearly-empty Coke bottle that looks like it's ready for the bin) is not my idea of aesthetic beauty in the home. I guess these objects serve to mark territory - as does their deleterious impact on the sonics of your hi-fi.

I don't wish to offend, this is just my honest opinion. Smile

Steve.

Can I quote you on that?

Just looked at the pics, very nice, plenty of space for all those extra boxes Pat wants to sell you too!

I'll try and get a piccy of my (very cluttered) rack up here at some point. No room for that NAP 150 Frown

Steve,

No offence taken.

I actually agree with you about the her territory thing and that's why I'm going to jolly well put my foot down...however, when you do get married and get a place of your own, remember my anguish and tell me you don't have the same kind of thing. It may not happen straight away, but there will be a kind of power struggle - particularly around things that generally women don't like or understand - boxes of electronics, speakers and - worst of all - speaker cable snaking all over the place.

Good luck!

Woody,

Mrs Toy-to-be already lives with large floorstanders on Mana, cables across the floor (Naca5 tends not to snake though as it's rathe stiff) and the mains block living right in the middle of the room.

It was like that before she came into my life, and it is therefore an integral part of me. I'm making use of the time we spend in my parental home so that she is already accustomed to having hi-fi in the home and all that it entails before we move to our own place.

She enjoys the benefits of a well set-up system as much as I do, and I bet your wife probably does too if only she'd admit it.

Steve.

Drinks cabinet

Now that would be the solution - it offers her a concession, takes her wishes into account and thus she won't lose face - and you'll both be happy.

Unless she's just plain unreasonable.

Yes it has - if I start nagging now I'll have it in (only) a few years! Mind you, still loving what I've got!

Bit more complex than that, unfortunately. I was going to go into why but I won't - it's boring. But don't think I haven't thought about it.

Woody,

I don't wish to offend anyone, but I don't think you need marital advice from our friend Mr Toy who's still living with his parents' and has been advertising his engagement longer than most of us care to remember.

There's nothing wrong with that - it just doesn't qualify one for dispensing advice, especially if the advice is invariably about drawing the hard line.

My guess is most people with real experience in living together know there are too many variables and history in each relationship to warrant advice from strangers.

So we're all wishing you best of luck. And make sure to put food and water for a couple of days in the wood shed.Wink

Relationships and hifi is very difficult. It is annoying though that people say that if your better half don't like it get another better half.

I love my Fiance (we marry in May) and if in the end she said ditch the HIFI, I would.

Not the music though ;-)

Alex, enough tinkering and domestic negotiations blabber- let's see a pic of your current system! Wink

Tasha and I are discussing this matter almost as I type this. Btw Herm, she thinks you are a pillock for your above statement. Wink

She objects to my wooden wall-mounted CD rack though so compromises will be made on that particular score.

As for takin a hardline, no way was I suggesting that, simply that you shouldn't be trampled on as part of some petty power struggle.

Algers,

The camera isn't the problem. You need 2 stacks of Fraim to steady things. Wink
