Sistem pics 2003

Posted by: Steve Toy on 14 January 2003

Here are a few crappy pics. I've got some of Stallion's rig too, but I await his permission to post them.

I need to get the file size down. I see that we now get 50k Smile

Regards,

Steve.

"so you have to increase the ambient light a lot more than you are at the mo"

He's got plenty of light he just needs to learn how to use his camera and/or the software properly.

I struggle to think what sort of flash cannot successfully illuminate a hifi from 3ft. away -- it implies a guide number of about 1 and a flash powered by iridescent inscects or something.

"the problem in those pics is not a question of flash per se, it's a question of the type of lighting applied to the kit"

I think the more pressing problem is one of them so dark you can't actually see anything.

from bliss to gloom (and back)

Looking at Alan's picture I first thought somebody had finally managed to put XTC in the tapwater (typical Dutch joke), but the bliss was brief.

Honest, the only way I can look at the Toy pictures is crunching gobs of Prozac - they are the gloomiest thing I ever saw.

So today's prize goes to Gary, simple, clear and cheerful. A sistem that fits in the room without any problems, rather than living in an audio bunker.

I seem to recall it helps to add IMHO

yup, that's one of the problems.
however, as shown in one of the shots that was posted slightly dark and then leveled, the original flash overexposure shows no matter how you put it.
solving the flash issue would lower the contrast, and therefore allow for a greater level of detail throughout...

We have an 82 now, but have not taken any pics yet. And yes, I know, get the system out from between the speakers, etc. The room is very odd, so cant do that at this time. Building was built in 1924 and has a long steam heater to the right of the system, under two big windows. Oh, and it does look a wee bit crooked and must re-adjust in photoshop.

Do the venetians wobble when the speakers are cranked up?

Seeing as I live in an apartment building, I have yet to get this thing really nice and loud. I really, really want too! But, on the rare occasion that we have put it up to about 10.5, I thought I saw just the briefest flutter.

How did you crack the anti gravity/levitation problem with the turntable?
Posted on: 15 January 2003 by maxwellspeed
Greeny,
Heck, how do you reach that Linn? A foot above a 6 tier. I would need a step ladder. Maybe the thinner air brings out more detail?

I think it would be quicker if we simply gave out home addresses and invited people round for a gander....

Is it all worth it?

I'll try a pic of mine.

Here you go Steve, Photoshop is the best image correction software you could ever get, but also the most expensive, Kinda like Naim!

Posted on: 15 January 2003 by Steve Toy
Wolf,

Knowing how to use it (as you do) helps too.

I was (mis)using Adobe Photo Deluxe 4.0

Steve.

"I was (mis)using Adobe Photo Deluxe 4.0"

PhotoDeluxe is designed to be foolproof so I'm not sure what could be going wrong. From what I can remember when you edit a picture there is a big button marked "Please Automatically Make My Picture Look at Least Half Decent". They may have renamed it "Instant Fix" in later versions.

Otherwise look for something called "Levels" or "Histogram" and read the appropriate section of the help and tutorials. It seems rather pointless to continue uploading picutres that are mostly dark shadow.

I've just taken mattbr's advice.

Cheers Matt.

Do you think it's a little purple?

Rampant Paranoia Persists

“Can't wait to find out who the perenially junior Fred is; though why on earth he should be anyone but himself frankly beats me.”

Oh no, not this old chestnut again.

“However in my recollection Steve's photos are the worst ever posted. Can anyone offer any worse? A professional photo of a Martin Logan wouldn't count.”

I have to admit, a few I’ve posted aren’t that great – but I’m no VV behind the lens.

Stallers,
Is that woodchip on the walls?

Not what I expected from a man of your standing.
