Here are a few crappy pics. I've got some of Stallion's rig too, but I await his permission to post them.
I need to get the file size down. I see that we now get 50k
Regards,
Steve.

I heard a squeak!
This particular viewpoint of mine was formed in the two years that followed my graduation, and well before I ever sat behind the wheel of a taxicab.
FYI, my fiancée hasn't lived in another country since June.
I think a person's occupation is irrelevant to their viewpoint and such tactics of deflection - attacking the person and not the viewpoint are best left to those in Downing Street.
Regards,
Steve.

Dan- my thoughts exactly except I'll probably use the alarm in my cellphone.
My boy, Toy- does your mail-order bride live with you in mom and dad's basement? How does she sound sitting on QS?

Having had the pleasure of putting some quadraspire together I can whole hartedly suggest that people check out Ash Designs.
Ash Designs seems to have the same philosphy (i.e. it don't pretend to be anything other than a bloody rack)
Its better made, more substantial and looks nicer.
I won't ever consider quadraspire after putting it together, because frankly it is one step from Ikea, which is a lot cheaper.

Garyi, any pics of your system sitting on Ash Designs?

Garyi,
what did you change from, to now use the Ash design rack?

Nice rant Toon, but shouldn't your power amp be on its own rack and your gear not set between the speakers? Why the sacrifice?

Ludwig,
One suggestion for your bedroom rig. Loads and loads of M@N$....

Firstly Mekons post was quite humorous and Steven should have taking it as the witty reaprtee it was or been more mature and ignored it
The know-it-all taxi driver jibes wore thin ages ago.
I was mature enough to ignore a post that followed it though.

If he placed his racks along the side wall instead of between the speakers, the rack would be directly in the firing line of the speakers in what is a small room. The golden rule of not placing equipment between speakers can be broken if the front baffles are ahead of the rack. With speakers requiring boundary reinforcement (Naim speakers, Kans, Briks etc) this is obviously an issue. Here it is not.
As for the dedicated amp rack, I guess it is a case of one step at a time with the old Mana upgrades, notwithstanding issues of the amount of space available. In any case, it is more important to keep a certain distance between brawn and brain components.

Steve.

Don't get your undies in an uproar, Toy. I assumed with the speakers toed in he could place his racks along the side wall and avoid firing line interference. Now it sounds like Toon needs to unleash the sawzall on those constricting walls (or at least swap out that blue carpeting for f*ck sake).

Ludwig,
You are indeed correct about the blue carpet and the walls. I have a brown carpet and narrow walls. I also have a suspended wooden floor that I'd like to fill with concrete.
I'd certainly like a room upgrade at some point.
The post I chose to ignore was one by your good self.
Regards,
Steve.
PS: For the pic you only have to look here

With speakers requiring boundary reinforcement
On a minor point of order, whether John's speakers require boundary reinforcement or not they are certainly getting it.

Steven, if you used Mana the suspended wooden floor becomes completely irrelevant, so effective that it is
John,
I have a pair of Sound Bases under my speakers and whilst they do a grand job, I still feel that concrete underneath them would improve things further.

Steve.

My claim is that, once you have, say, your speakers (and certainly if your equipment was phased as well on a Mana rack) at (say) Phase 4 Mana, the issue of whether or not the system is in a room with concrete or suspended wooden floor becomes completely and utterly irrelevant.
I am confident that if you take your speakers up to Phase 2 or 3 then most of your issues with the floor would completely disappear -- well, certainly if your equipment was also similarly phased...
The extra phases that Marco has added recently have brought about an obvious improvement. The pertinent point for this discussion, though, is if you went over and heard his system, now, which is of course on a wooden suspended floor, you too would also conclude that the floor issue is a moot point. I use his system as an example because it is a classic demonstration of how Mana can negate the issue of a suspended floor.
John.
Mana soundbases have now overtaken multiple spurs as the kidney massage of hi fi.

I'm happy to consider more Mana under my speakers at some point. As for my equipment, it is better off on my existing stand to my ears.
I've had my own kit in a bake-off of QS Ref (w/o bog seats I might add) versus Mana #4, and the QS Ref was still more musical - if less detailed than the Mana, imho.

Steve.

I rub my thingys 13 times, counterclockwise, with lavendar petals and tea tree oil before each track and it "opens up" the soundstage, puts "air" around strings and vocals, "crystallizes" the placement of the performers, and eliminates any "hootyness" in the midrange (and my farts).

I might as well...
As this seems to be an never ending post, I might as well throw some pictures in.
Now the question is, how the hell do you do that??? (using Mac and Explorer 5)
:-) Thomas

Explorer 5! You is in the dark ages my man!
Anyhoo take a picture and get it under 40k using photo software, i'll assume that because you are using exporer five that you are using OSX.
Do up a message then click on the paper clip. then browse to your picture. Job done.
Or if you have online space, wack it there then link to it using the image tags.

Yeah, I know Explorer 5 is way old, but I´m waiting for my new copmuter to arrive (PB 15) so I don´t bother upgrading. (I even run OS 9.2 on this one!).
Ok, here we go:
