NAP 135 Transformer and Recapping price ?

Posted by: JosephR on 04 February 2001

A friend just opened up his NAP 135's and found out that one had the 500VA rating and another one had 600VA, and printed on it are:

NAIM AUDIO
NAP 135-250
90183 P2S5
NO. RATED@600VA

NUVOTEM TED, CROLLY,CO.
DONEGAL, IRELAND
TEL(075)48666
FAX 075 48139

So it has been changed, but the Naim website still states 500 VA. I guess it's time to upgrade my NAP 135s soon. Anyone know the service cost ?

Also, how much does it cost to have Naim recap my pair of 135s ?

Thanks !

I have just had my two 135's recapped by Naim. The cost was £106.08 each. Very good service, took about two weeks, and this was just before Christmas. They are on 24Hrs a day, sound great. Just added a Supercap for the 82, and now a CD5, powered by one of my old Hi-Caps. The system just sings.e

Brian,

What would happen if you use the Supercap on the CD5?

Please report back.

Joseph,

surely some misunderstanding here?

I presume you're reading these from the transformers? The re-cap will not replace the transformers.

By an incredible coincidence I've been comparing two old-style pairs of 135s, today, one with the transformers replaced!

A few years ago one of my 135 transformers died, and a pair were upgraded with new tranny's.

Today I tried the repaired amps against a similar original-spec pair (both were recapped about 18 months ago).

"New-" sounded up-beat, but forward.

"Old-" was less dramatic, but subtler and with a more "listen into" sound.

cheers, Martin

This the Audio Research owning friend or some other rich friend?

Others can waste their time, I will not.

See you in another guise soon.

cheers

Thanks all. Martin, I was referring to two separate upgrades. Your reply gives me second thoughts on the transformer upgrade though ...

P.S. Can I trust my dealer's technician to do the recapping ? Are dealers trained to do it ? That's because I don't live in the UK. No problems shipping it out, though, if dealers can't do it.

Oh, Nigel, peace man ! I have no other guise except my first post where I was "naimuser". Changed it after Vuk posted that he would like me to use my name instead.
