Where to buy LPs in Brighton?

Posted by: Steve Bull on 09 November 2008

Off to visit eldest at uni later in the month so might as well make some time to go record shopping while I'm about it Smile Any recommendations? General vinyl sales is fine, somewhere with a good selection of Blue Note, Impulse, Verve etc even better.

Several in the North Laines.

Wax Factor, Trafalgar Street- 2nd hand, overpriced IMO

Across The Tracks, Sydney Street- good 2nd hand selection, reasonably priced

Borderline, Gardener Street. Small selection of new vinyl.

Second hand vinyl (specialized on soundtracks) in a small record store just across from the main train station.

Can't recall the name of the store.

Borderline is the place to go if you want to get some jazz.

Resident (North Lanes) has a small selection of new vinyl but more chart.

Zavvi in Chruchill Square has some vinyl as well - nothing too stunning though.

I went into Borderline today and their vinyl selection is very good. Quite a lot of jazz and lots of other releases woth checking out. Make sure you look through the vinyl on the counter in the boxes as there are a lot of the new audiophile releases there including MOFI and I seem to recall one or two of the Hoffman remastered 45rpm Blue Notes

Thanks guys - given the location of some of these then I shouldn't have any trouble slipping away for a bit of browsing while Mrs B and the girlies go off shopping themselves Smile

OK... Brighton...

But what about Hastings ? Still a place to buy music ? (as it was, 35 years ago...)

probably my first budget over-spending happened in Hastimgs, then... Hendrix, Floyd and (tada...) Johnny Winter.

Dont forget Rounder Records in the North Laines, they've got lots of vinyl and they're independant!
