Getting music from my laptop to the Uniti
Posted by: basildk on 14 July 2010
Hi all.
Have a quick question: I have a laptop without af mini-toslink output, and i am a subscriber to one of those "Listen to all the music you like"-services.This is great if you want to hear an album before purchasing it.
I know that these services is a compromise to music-quality, but if i want the sound from my laptop to the Uniti, what is the recommended way?
Thanks all

Maybe use a M2 Hiface which is USB then use coax into the back of the Uniti

While the M2Tech HiFace is one of the best devices around £100, if you are just usig compressed music you may well find a £20 USB to SPDIF converter from Maplins/Amazon/etc. will suit you fine.
Another thought would be to use an AirPort Express and AirFoil if you want to do this wirelessly.

Thanks for your help. Will look into a USB to SPDIF converter.
Eloise: You mention that an AirPort Express might do the trick. Doesnt that require some sort of streaming-server software on my laptop?

Nope - just iTunes.

M2Tech HiFace
Go for the M2Tech HiFace. When you are ready for lossless music, you don't have to buy another device. Start considering ripping your cds using your pc or better still get hd audio files from the internet.

You'll be able to stream from iTunes using no additional software. If you wish to stream from other software (i.e. Spotify, etc) you'll need a programme called AirFoil.
