........ and there it was, in my collection all the time

Did you ever buy an album give it one listen, not like some aspect of it and put it carefully away?

Only to take it out some serious time later, asking yourself "I wonder how this sounds with the new speaker position" or some such question.

Happens to me quite a bit, but the latest one is a bit embarrassing, I'm asking myself where was I in 1987? (musically)

Album in question - The Wedding Present - George Best.

Got it about 3 years ago as part of a box set of WP albums on Cooking Vinyl. Put it on, went aggh! seriously tinny sound.

Put it on last week. Sound still not A1 (far from it) but my system set-up now a little more forgiving with some descent bass and I'm tapping, singing (trade's description act stuff) and downloading lyrics. What an album! The speed of the frantic guitar playing, the less than perfect making it all the more perfect voice.

the loneliness of "But that's what best friends are for, but does she have a best friend anymore?"

the heartache of "favourite dress" along with music to dance and sing to.

Wonderful stuff.

This find got me relistening to loads of stuff I had disliked the production of which will undoubtedly spring up here sooner or later.

In order to avoid not realizing a treasure that I did not like the first listen, I will listen to a album 3-4 times when I first get them. I usually do not file them away and keep them in plain sight so I will more likely pick it up and think maybe this time I am in the right mindset to appreciate it. This might help limit the amount of unrealized and lost treasures in your collection. It has helped me. Big Grin

I ran across a Bowie Best Of disc the other day that I have no earthly idea how it came to be in my possession. I don't really borrow cds from others, so I must have either purchased it or stolen it at some point. Welcome find, but puzzling.

Not the same as your thread premise, but sorta.

yes Sloop John B, I have done that, more than once.

I wonder if its a change in the system or a change in me? What I mean to say is, that there are many albums which I listen to now, but didnt used to (awful grammar, sorry)...for example i bought The Streets-a grand dont come for free (for those who dont know its low culture..lol )when it came out and played it only once, now I love it. What changed? my system...yes def, me...yes probably.

The title of this thread reminds me of all the times I bought a piece of music only to get home and find that I already had it. I'm going to have to carry a database of my music when I go to the store. Winker

Lost count of the times this has happened. Need a palm top for the MusicCollector DB.

After another shopping expedition (NY & elsewhere this time), more doubles discovered, including one only a few weeks old, Dominik Eulberg - Eine Kleine Schmetterlings-Hommage. I am fairly sure that I have some of the Pharma records and Severed Heads ...

Repeat, Must try harder to remember, must try harder....
