I am not old enough to remember a time before this song, or even, "Three Little Fishes," from Frankie Howerd.
I think times were more innocent then ...
Even though called Danny I assumed as a kid that he was a woman!
Certainly this is harmless fun!

I think I was about 6 months old when I realised "danny" was a drag queen - sorry, "female impersonator"
Sorry George,

Had it not been for the dreary 'The Good Old Days' I suspect that D LaRue would not have become the 'household name' he did ... the frissant of respectible naughtiness that took him then to the Gen Game and the mainstream of light entertainment.
But
'Hinge & Bracket' now you're talking ... straight into the highlife of daytime telly as regulars on Pebble Mill at One, and right on to Covent Garden...

...and a wonderfully subversive act in the midst of daytime TV mediocrity..

I really thought that they were women too!

IIRR (I was only a lad) D LaRue used to come on and do a funny turn of some sort. But it may have been some other programme.

Danny La Rue of course was the person that Ray Davies based Lola on. It is sad that he has gone even if I have to confess to not being a great fan. None the less he did, in 1968, have a big hit with On Mother Kelly's Doorstep which I'm sure everybody knows was written by the great songwriter and music hall show director George Alex Stevens. Other than Danny his hits were sung by Marie Lloyd, Albert Chevalier, Florrie Forde and Gracie Fields; I bet I'm not the only one of the forum to think Gracie's version of Chump Chop and Chips is definitive.
So it is sad to see the passing of another entertainer, I notice Larry Grayson also pictured here and he died a good few years ago; apparently both Danny and Larry attempted to reply to every fan letter they received personally and with a hand written note. Ringo take note - you know it don't come easy.
