Ahh, Fox News and an MSNBC opinion piece. You are clearly a phenomenally world-savvy individual. Amazing stuff - keep up the fight. The world is a more informed place for your diligence. I feel safer already, and will plan my every move as a citizen according to the "real" story you provide right here in the humble Padded Cell, hub of world freedom and democracy.

{insert appropriate number of eye-rolling smileys here... I'd say several are called for.}

I suspect that's just the point Acad was highlighting (and not regarding the Naim Forum) - that it does stick in the craw of some people to be constantly bombarded with the 'harbingers of freedom and democracy' line by a country which is such an leading model of democracy that - just for one example - it did away with formal racial segregation not even 50 years ago.

If a nation sets itself up as the paradigm of democracy in the world (and world policeman) then it is not unreasonable to suggest that it behoves that nation to ensure its own house is in order...

Not by a country so much as by the media, and (by extension) those who would benefit most from the manipulation thereof (e.g., politicians). It's the same media, by the way, upon which AT rather clumsily relies to supply his counterpoint.

Here we completely agree; likewise, it behooves a neighbor to tidy up their own garden before sneering over the fence at the neighbor's mess.

I studied the trial of the four LAPD police officers who beat Rodney King, and the resulting fallout, in detail for a university essay.

The LAPD is racist, corrupt and prone to brutalising people.

jayd, congratulations on your sarcastic wit.

A university essay, you say? Well, that's conclusive enough for me. (News flash: LA is a racist, corrupt, and brutal city, in uniform or out.)

It seems that popular support for the "special relationship" is declining on both sides of the Atlantic. Let us hope it dies out altogether after the next UK General Election.

I have nothing against US citizens, but I object to the way that all post 1945 administrations seem to think they not only can rule world events, apply The US's own version of civilisation, and completely fail to account for others in its calculations. Any country whose leaders say what was said about the French for example when that country's governement refused to get involved the ridiculous Iraq invasion, really diserves the distrust it is increasinbly getting from Europe.

Kindest regards from Fredrik

Now...now... Acad

I'm sure if we all pursued the BBC or the local papars in any country on the globe, we could come up with similar dirt. No doubt some policeman in Kent has shoved his baton up someones ass and stuck the boot in. What does that prove ? In order to be free and democratic we have to be perfect ?

By the way...Do you hate America because we're friends with Israel or do you hate Israel because their friends with us ? I can never quite figure out where you're coming from.

BB

P.S By friends, I mean friends with a capital F.

Please rest assured that a many, many Americans object to this as well.

Dear jayd,

I could hardly object to the people of America. I have a familly book where there must be 500 Norwegian descendants [since 1540 and the oldest traced familly memeber] living in the US, The one I do know is a great Uncle, whom I met in 1967 at my Aunt's Wedding where I was a Page boy! He went there in 1954, but some familly [common ancestry - that's all] has been there several generations...

I am glad enough that at least some US Americans are not too keen of the tactics of the administrtion since WW2, but there is no doubt that these very actions surely try the patince of the rest of the world, whether they are essentially friends of the US or not.

Thanks from Fredrik

Once again, jayd, congratulations on your sarcastic wit. I said that the LAPD is racist, corrupt and prone to brutalising people. I did not condemn an entire city - although the almost total lack of public toilets in some parts of Los Angeles does raise a few interesting questions.

Just as a matter of interest, why do you think that the four police officers were tried in Simi Valley?

I don't hate America per se - I hate aspects of America. I don't hate Israel either but I hate aspects of Israel. It is rather simplistic to label someone as anti this or anti that because they do not like aspects of the whole. I remain a movie lover but I can't abide some movies. If one were a true American patriot one would be appalled by the action of the LAPD and outraged by the US invasion of iraq and disgusted by the support the US gives to Israeli aparthied and ethnic cleansing. I am not so much against the US as I am against police brutality, illegal invasions of sovereign states and against supporting rogue states that practice aparthied wherever these events occur.

The LAPD attacking women and children attending a legal demonstration - 'decent'? You excel yourself Parry.

I read (and believe it or not, understood) what you wrote. I was trying to supply you with some apparently much needed context.

While we're bringing up non sequiturs, I'll answer your question with one of my own: Why do you think Shipton, Rickards, and Collum were acquitted in the Louise Nicholas case?

The irony is if it had been Saddam's police or Iran's police doing the beating your Fox News would be claiming it was justification for invasion.

Err, shall what? Shall rest assured? Shall object? Without better info from you, I really can't say whether we shall or shan't.

Dude, you are the one using a Fox News report to make your argument. That isn't irony, it's just poor judgement on your part.

It is irony. It is a well known fact that Americans don't understand irony and you prove it.

It's also a well known fact that Fox News broadcasts packs of lies. Didn't stop you from using them to try and make your weak-ass point, though. You really should investigate some quality sources (sh*t in, sh*t out as they say).

Could be "see". Could be any other verb in the English language, too. I'm going to guess "itch" Yes, Acad, we shall itch at the next US elections.
