Neil Young: Living With War

Posted by: Dexter on 27 April 2006

Already beginning to cause quite a stir back in the States:

quote:
Living With War will stream on NeilYoung.com beginning Fri, Apr. 28th. The album will be available at digital retailers beginning May 2nd. CDs will be available in stores early May.

Written and recorded over the course of just 9 days this spring, the album consists of Young fronting a power trio, augmented by trumpet and 100 voice choir.

All the lyrics have been posted already on Neil's website (viewable at the bottom of the screen as a crawling ticker); on the basis of the words alone this looks to be just about the strongest condemnation yet from a mainstream artist of the disease that has infected Washington D.C. over the past six years.

I can't stand 'oh so clever-clever' web sites like this one.

Anybody that stands up against that evil little moron G.W.Bush is fine by me and any websites that spread dissent against Bush is ditto.

Right on, Erik ... I couldn't agree with you more.

Like the Bowie song says, This Is Not America.

Ol' Neil has been a bit all over the place down the years, Ohio to Reagan to Rockin' in the free world.
Sounds like he's on the right track this time though.

Some UK dates with a few nights at Hammersmith Odeon to promote the album would be nice.

Sounds promising, even through my crappy laptop speakers! I like Neil in angry mode.

I agree Malky. Was at the Apollo on Tuesday night to see Chris Rea: I just wish they could create a bit more leg room: it's really tight for a six footer!

It will always be Hammermsith Odeon to me, Chris. You should have gone standing, downstairs.

I know it as the Odeon too! I didn't get the tickets so had to take what was given! I have seen some wonderful stuff there in the past!

Been listening to the stream tonight and its pretty powerful stuff. One will have to place an order for one.

Keep forgetting Neil is Canadian and not American.

Have they forgiven the Dixie Chicks yet?

I've been listening to the stream at least twice a day, sometimes more, and sometimes in succession. While the lyrics are hardly great art in the Dylanesque sense, they are plain and direct and get the job done. Ultimately, the whole is far greater than the sum of the constituent parts; LWW rocks like a hurricane and is catchy as all-get-out.

And on the basis of preorders alone (release date is May 8th), LWW already ranks #3 in sales on Amazon.com.

The Dixie Chicks were licking their wounds for a bit but now they're back and telling it like it is. Check it out.

The Dixie Chicks certainly don't need to be forgiven as far as I'm concerned.
