A Few Questions????
Posted by: BellyHibee on 03 May 2003
I have had my nait 3 for a few months now and im very happy too.but my rega plannar 3 is still not connected
Q1 Do i go for a phono stage ie,trichord dino, musical fidelity xlps(second hand) or some mm phono cards.
Q2 would the phono stage work off the phono inputs on the back of the nait or will it have to go into the aux. input?
Q3 i am also looking at a near future upgrade to the nait, would a flatcap be able to power my 3(with dealer mods)? and what kind of improvement would this give ?
cheers for any advice.

I had my Nait 3 "split" by Naim North America in February/March and returned to me with a Flatcap 2. I have been very pleased with the results. From my perspective, it has also opened the upgrade door in the future by allowing me to seperately power the analog section of a Naim cdp and possibly acquiring a seperate amp to mate with the Nait 3 pre section, if I ever feel the need. The Naim cdp is defintely in the forseeable future .... I am so pleased with the Nait 3/Flatcap 2, I doubt I will be making changes there for quite a while. Good listening.

Hi.
Q1: Internal boards are good enough and cheap.
Q2: Phono input.
Q3: A flatcap or even a hicap will turn your Nait into a much more capable amp, it's an amazing upgrade! A dealer is reqired to do the modifications. Go for it, you will get a much better amplifier with improvements everywhere.
good luck

hi Bjorne
do u really think internal boards would better a phono stage .i thought the dino was supposed to be quite good and the xlps from musical fidelity rich and full sounding
thanks for the info on upgrading power supply.

The Naim internal phono boards work fine. As an additional bonus you can sometimes get them second-hand off eBay or from dealers who have done customer upgrades to Prefix/Stageline etc.
I would not put more money into a 3rd party external phono stage with what you currently have, it can be better spent elsewhere. The K9 may not be a good match for the Rega, talk to your dealer and get his advice on carts before upgrading from the AT.
Alternatively do a search here on Rega and see what other people team them up with.
