32.5+ 729 boards, what changes.

Being a lover of the 32.5 pre-amp , can any one who has done the 72 card upgrade! explain what the main changes are (sound).Does it become a 72 clone or does it retain its own character. I do not like the forward presentation of the 72 mid band, so should i avoid this change. All views appreciated.

Hi Dave

Have you sold the 102? I still have your old 32.5 but it's not being used at the moment as I got a 72 and I much prefer it, especially on CD. I find the slightly more forward presentation of the 72 better especially on vocals. Vinyl is very alike with just a hint of a cleaner sound with the 72 (using the 323s that came with the 32). Your old Hicap is still going strong. It took me about 3 months to get the Briks sounding at their best ( they're so heavy that you don't want to move them too often) but amazingly well worth it in my opinion. If you're ever in EK get in touch and we'll have a session.

Thanks for the reply Syd. Ihave just parted company with my latest 102 (my 3rd)and become a proud owner of yet another 32.5 all part of my journey to obtain an 82. This is my 3rd 32.5 also and it always amazes me how rounded this amp is. It does not do anything brilliantly (by todays standards) but is a good allrounder.

A few weeks ago i had in the house at the same time a 32.5 ,72, and my own 102. Swapping between them proved to me that i could live with the 32.5 but not the 72. The 72 is clearer than the 32.5 but i love the warmth and fuller sound of the 32.5. The whole reason for this post is to find out from anyone who has done the change is does the 32.5 retain its character and become clearer at the same time, or does it end up sounding like a 72.
