Free Trade Espresso?

Posted by: j8hn on 27 July 2005

I figured the very least I can do is to try and buy free trade produce. Until now I've been happy to use Lavazza in my espresso machine or at a pinch Illey, but I can't find a decent free trade espresso in my local supermarkets. I'm trying Percol Americano Organic Arabica a dark roast that's supposed to be "suitable for all coffee makers" but I don't think it's finely ground enough and I'm not getting the deep bite and viscosity I like - all I get is thin and insipid :-(
Can anyone please suggest a brand or supplier - I'm doing fine with free trade bananas though ;-)

I would like to know the answer to this too.

But j8hn - surely Illy beats Lavazza in any fair fight? Are you quite well?

Buy a grinder? Then you can buy beans but get the grind right for your machine, which supermarket stuff rarely does. It'll taste fresher too!

No shortage of mail order companies who sell good quality fair-trade coffee either.

Watch out for the bananas, they tend to muck up the grinder.

"buy a grinder" - it's sad enough that I have an espresso machine.
Superior prat with Lavazza ;-)
