Denon 1910

Just bought one of the above receivers.

I've connected my Sony BluRay player via a cheap HMDI cable I had left over, however I cannot get HD Audio, the display only says PCM is being received.

Would the cable have any bearing on this, as I have the player outputting via HDMI, and the amp receiving as Auto? Are older HDMI cables not HD Audio compatible?

Had a similar problem coonecting my Sony to a Yamaha - if I remember rightly its a setting in the Sony audio menu but can't fully remember which bit - will have a look tomorrow for you.

Probably 2 things to check...

A: If it happens to be a music movie disk you are watching, it may default to a stereo PCM sound track..

B: Most likely that you have not properly setup the blu-ray player audio output (if might have a downscale feature to stereo that you have previously had switched on ?)

Have a read of the manual of both player and receiver, and all should become clear as mud.

Thanks for your help.

As you said a bit more playing around at the DVD end and the HD Audio light lit up.

That saves a trip out on this very dreary Sunday.
