LP12 setup

Posted by: BigH47 on 27 January 2003

Having tried to understand the LP12 set up document, a couple of questions.( haven't done any thing to mine its as it came back from the dealer.)
MY understanding of the set up is that it is done in a support frame, the base being lined up with the sides and the frame horizontal both ways.
I set my TT support shelf level bothways.
Q1 What should I check on the LP12 for level the base or the turntable?
I ask this because the bottom cover is not in the setup(I think) and I can't believe those rubber feet are all exacly the same size so the TT will not be level.

What you need to level on a turntable is the spindle or bearing. This is in order to reduce frition when the platter turns. In order to set up an Lp12 though the plinth needs to be level , this is in order for the suspention to work properly,The springs won't bounce properly unless they are held at near vertical, but since there will be a degree of error due to the nature of its construction,(If you use 3 feet this will be corrected and it will sound better just use one at the back or front centre)just get this nearly level. When the supention is set correctly the spindle should be level when a record is placed on the deck.
